Self-Love Challenge Day 17 Gratitude Practice Now that we are writing about our dreams first thing in the morning, and we may be following that up with a positive affirmation (if you’ve chosen to take any of that on), it looks like a new writing habit is being formed as we create new neural pathways for creativity! ... Another beauty for the morning is writing one thing you are grateful for, as this is a positive way to begin a day in the life of the haves, by staying focused on what brings you joy (and flexing your positive mindset muscle). When we express (and receive) gratitude, our brain releases the neurotransmitters dopamine and serotonin, giving us the warm fuzziesnatural mood enhancers! I discovered the gratitude practice some years ago when I found myself stuck in a negative mindset about some situations in my life, and was looking to create a massive shift for the better. I would share with you what those things were if I could remember, but I’ll take it as a mission accomplished that I cannot. Regardless, I was very aware that I also had a lot of blessings in my life which were always there, but somehow they were never the primary focus of my thoughts. Could this really be why my life was a shitstorm? Could it really be because that’s where my thoughts were fixated? On my perceived failures and shortcomings? No one responsible for this but me? Um...yes!Transformation station! I’m one of those people who wakes up naturally happy every damn day, no joke. It’s another huge blessing to be grateful for. So I was a little surprised that gratitude did not come naturally for me until I made it a practice. Yes, gratitude is also a mindset that might not come naturally when our minds are burdened with fear and doubt, and more recently for me as I grieved the loss of my best friend and life partner. I still get sad, but gratitude gets me through it. Gratitude can be developed with practice and hugely enrich your life. So why not add that to the morning’s soul-nurturing writing ritual? What better way to offer yourself some more of that good self-lovin?! Tomorrow I’ll talk about the reflection journal entry you can write at the end of your day. Until then, peace, love and happy habits! Photo left: Debby Hudson debbyhudsoncreative.wordpress.com Photo right: Taylor Deas-Melesh @taylordeasmelesh #february2021selflovechallenge

Day 16 Electrolytes Electrolytes are super essential minerals that ensure the proper operation of the body’s digestive, muscular, cardiac and nervous systems, and help balance the body’s pH levels (acidity:alkalinity). Examples of electrolytes are sodium, calcium and potassium, magnesium, but mainly the last two, are commonly deficient from the diet. Soil depletion is a thing! And if processed food and alcohol is consumed on the regular, you may also be deficient. ... Additionally, If you’re engaging in continuous, sweaty, vigorous, physical activity for longer than an hour, in a very hot environment for long periods of time, electrolyte replacement might be a good call. Symptoms of electrolyte imbalance or deficiency are muscle spasms, irregular heartbeat, dizziness, nausea, diarrhea, vomiting or just feeling awful. What the body most likely doesn’t need, is sugary, artificial sports drinks to replenish salts. Instead try all-fruit juice, coconut water, and a pinch of salt to create a natural, healthier electrolyte beverage. Cheers! Know anyone who might need more electrolytes in their life? What’s your fave electrolyte concoction? #february2021selflovechallenge See more

Day 15 Protein SuperSmoothies I really can’t say enough about smoothies. They are the perfect meal for folks who aren’t hungry at breakfast time, or who get tired after a big meal in the middle of the day. And considering the fact that you can get more than half of the day’s protein in one glass, I highly recommend getting these into your meal plan. ... Protein is necessary for tissue repair and muscle growth and can help your body recover after an intense workout. It helps to balance your blood sugar and keeps you from feeling hungry. Smoothies are portable and quite convenient when you prepare them ahead. I like to use 16oz canning jars with lids and make 3-4 at a time. Here is my most favorite, absolutely delicious, go-to protein smoothie batch recipe. The measurements are not exact because it’s automatic for me, but your making it to your taste, so.. 30 oz nut milk- I use Original Silk Protein (almond and cashew milk) because it’s the highest protein milk and best tasting I’ve found. 2 scoops organic, plant based protein powder- I choose organic hemp protein because it’s easy to digest, has the complete amino acid profile, essential fatty acids and micronutrients and FIBER! I may write an entire blog post on hemp protein! 2 frozen bananas- or not frozen but add some ice 2 T raw cacao nibs or powder- cacao is vegan, cocoa is not. I look for organic, gluten-free, fair trade, etc. 4 T almond butter (or fave nut or seed butter) 2 T ground tumeric-great for inflammation but you will need the complementary 1/2 t black pepper- which contains piperine to enhance the absorption of the curcurmin in the tumeric by up to 2000%. If the bananas don’t sweeten it up enough for you, add a little raw agave. With its low glycemic index, it’s a great sub for sugar and won’t spike your blood sugar. Lately I’ve been adding 2 T of Organic Lions Mane mushroom powder to the batch for all of its amazing health benefits for the brain, heart and gut, as well as a huge handful of beautiful kale because that’s what came in my farm box this week! Day 14 The Healing Power of Flowers Papyrus scripts in ancient Egypt reveal the use of flowers for healing, and indigenous healers of Australia and herbalists around the world have used them for centuries. The earliest European recorded use of flower essences was in the twelfth century by abbess Hildegard von Bingen, who placed muslin sheets over flowers at night to absorb their morning dew and treat people with emotional imbalances. ... Flower essences harness the vibrational energy of flowers which can improve the negative programming that leads us astray from our truth. As an alternative healthcare practitioner of twenty years, and a student for much longer, I believe in the mind/body connection and that physical disease can be a manifestation of emotional imbalance. Flower essence therapy is very subtle energy medicine, and the perfect gentle counterbalance to the work I do on the table. After a deep bodywork session we may feel relief, but also feel vulnerable and exposed and sometimes even raw. This is where the true healing begins. When the mask of physical tension is lifted and the belly (core) is exposed, flower essences go to work with your intention on the subtle energetic emotional plane, providing guidance and support between sessions. This, in tandem with either journaling your experience of the journey, or sharing it with a fellow flower tripper (or both) will further support your joining forces with our beloved plant and mineral friends. Both personally and in my practice, I use elixirs that contain a blend of flower essences with gemstone essence, and anointing oils (vegan option) that contain the flower and gemstone essences with a blend of essential oils. Search Lotus Wei on my website Rejuven8WellnessSpa.com/shop or contact me for a Zoom or in-person consultation ($33 fee applied toward your flower essence purchase). One bottle of elixir (tincture) is $35 will last about a month, which is a typical cycle of time between bodywork sessions. Of course you can use the products by themselves, or I can incorporate your essence of the month into your bodywork session if you wish...the possibilities are endless.
