To celebrate, we are honored to #HoldTheSpace with Dina Samson, mother, restaurateur, and advocate for independent restaurant owners, to share her reflections on what being an API woman means to her: "There are so many different cultures, societal, and class rules that make up the API community. Some cultures are matriarchal; most are patriarchal. Luckily for me, I grew up in a very matriarchal family, so the women in my family were excellent examples of strong women. As an API woman, it is essential to know yourself and what you want to accomplish. Forget the preconceived notions and the API boxes that people tend to put us in. Think and act on your behalf. Don’t put yourself on the back burner, and don’t second guess yourself. Make informed decisions that benefit you and the job/cause/goal you are working on. This sort of leadership is what our community needs. My message to the next generation of API women and girls, including my daughter, is to always advocate for yourself and others and not be afraid to ask for what you want or go for what you want. And remember to uplift your sisters." #powerofshe

On Sunday at Masters of Taste, each restaurant in the Thai PavilionVanda’s 3 buddies!will incorporate the traditional Thai 3 buddies paste, Sahm Kler (), in their dishes. The paste, comprised of coriander root, garlic, and white peppercorns, is found in a variety of Thai dishes and can be used as a soup base, as flavoring for stir-fries, and for marinating, grilling, and roasting meat dishes. At Ayara's booth, you can even expect a savory dessert by our sister, Pastry Chef @AyaraCathy, that is not to be missed. This year's event falls in April, during which Thai New Year, Songkran, is also celebrated. We call that a lucky coincidence! Chef Vanda, her 3 Thai buddy LA restaurants, and Thai Select are creating a Songkran celebration spanning the Rose Bowl’s end zone. The transformation will reflect a traditional Thai sundry general store and Songkran festival! We can't wait to see you there.

It’s been wild to see many, many of our restaurant sistHERs gradually reopen their doors to sorely-missed dining rooms + bars. To see faces! Smiles! Of both guests + vaccinated staff alike. We are all adjusting to this coming-out party at different paces, and we’re here for all of it with abundant empathy. Because of its intimate size, it’s been especially heart-filling to see that Courtney Kaplan’s @tsubakila in Echo Park has fully reopened. We’ve long thrived off the cozy i...zakaya’s energy when it’s filled with diners. Now, the sake is a-flowin’ SEVEN nights a week! Our favorite crab fried rice is back! Their yakitori menu by chef/owner @charles_namba is growing by every little chicken part, and the desserts by pastry chef @gemnator and recent @starchefs Rising Chef!! have evolved from pandemic-pretty to-go boxes to beautifully-plated and delivered to our tables. Very soon, Courtney and her team will reopen @ototo.la, its little brother restaurant next door.
