Brandon White will make his first attempt at virtual racing with the Spears Srl Southwest Tour Series on Tuesday, May 19th, when the series goes to virtual Phoe...nix International Raceway (2008 Legacy) for the America’s Tire 100 presented by Retro Custom Metals. White participated as a full-time SRL competitor from 2013 to 2016, with a single start in 2018. He had a best championship finish of fifth, while also scoring two additional top-10 results. The 2014 SRL Madera Speedway winner will be making his first official race, despite being an iRacing participant for many years. I’ve been on iRacing for eight years, White stated. I have never really done any official races. I’ve just kept with hosted events. White is one of only six drivers to have won in both the SPEARS Southwest Tour Series as well as the Pacific Challenge Series. The Eureka, CA driver would like to add an iRacing victory to the list, and is excited to be able to participate in an event like this. I really think it is a really cool idea, to keep everyone involved, White exclaimed! The fans get to see the racing factor, and so do we, without having to leave the house. Brandon will be driving a special Redwood Acres Raceway tribute scheme on his iRacing Super Late Model. He will be racing with a new computer, which will arrive just in time for Tuesday's event. The America’s Tire 100 presented by Retro Custom Metals will be broadcast live on SpearsRacing.TV as well as on the series Facebook page. The broadcast will begin at 7:30 pm and end at 9:00 pm. The top 20 drivers from qualifying will be locked into the feature with four cars advancing from the Heat Race to make up the 24-car feature. A special thanks goes out to America’s Tire (Joe Rhodes Jr.), Retro Custom Metals, Meech Media Group, Delta Gunite And Shotcrete and Reeves Complete Auto Center Inc..

The Spears Srl Southwest Tour Series would like to thank everyone who sponsored, assisted, coordinated, participated and tuned into last Tuesday’s iRacing event... from virtual Irwindale Speedway. The "Approved Memory 125 presented by Retro Custom Metals was a huge success and featured a thrilling finish that saw Christian McGhee edge out a hard charging Ricky Schlick by 0.006 seconds. The race was viewed nearly 10,000 times through Facebook and SpearsRacing.TV. Event Sponsors included Approved Memory, Retro Custom Metals, Meech Media Group, Delta Gunite And Shotcrete and Reeves Complete Auto Center Inc.. A special thanks goes out to Josh Laughton with Hoosier Tire West for his help in setting up the event as well as Tommy Mason and Jeffrey Best from Low Budget TV, for their call of the race. A big shoutout is also directed to Dave Reed, who came to Brian Olsen with the idea for the event. Basically, I was missing racing in general, and had seen all the iRaces going on, Reed recalled. A couple of guys we raced with, in short course off road racing, hit me up for some memory for their rigs, and it just hit me. We can do this with the Spears SRL Southwest Series. I posted on Facebook and it just kinda blew up from there. Brian, Josh, Tommy and Jeff all made it happen. I reached out to Chase Raudman based on his knowledge in general of iRacing. The rest is history. These guy all did an amazing job making it happen. Not to mention the quality of drivers that entered and made for a great show. I was happy to be a part of the first race, and would like to be involved in more. Christian McGhee ended up taking home $350 for a virtual days work, with a total purse payout of $1,400 to the field, thanks to the event’s sponsors. If a second event is scheduled, be assured there will be even greater participation, but a better finish will be hard to achieve.

Jace Hansen has his virtual hot rod digitally tuned up for tomorrow's Approved Memory 125 presented by Retro Custom Metals at virtual Irwindale Speedway! See hi...m and a full field battle LIVE at 7:30pm/PT on SpearsRacing.TV and here on Facebook. Hansen is an experienced iRacing driver and has scored over 50 wins in his career. His rookie season in the Spears Srl Southwest Tour Series was also strong, finishing 11th in the standings, despite missing an event. Come Tuesday night, Hansen will be one of the favorites. "I think virtual racing it is great", Hanson explained! I'm not surprised at all that the SRL folks came together to do something like this. Big thanks to Dave Reed, Approved Memory, Homie (David Nava Mulcahy), and Retro Custom Metals, Delta Gunite And Shotcrete, Meech Media Group and Reeves Complete Auto Center Inc. for their support. This deal works out great for us as we don't have our new car just yet, and with all the crazy stuff going on right now it's nice to be able to participate in any kind of racing!" The event will pay $250 to the winner with a purse of $1,400 thanks to a great team of sponsors.

Four-time Spears Srl Southwest Tour Series Champion Derek Thorn had a dominant season in 2019, but ended up third in the championship countdown. He finished a ...mere 29 points behind first-time champion Cole Moore, despite missing a single event at Kern County Raceway in June. Thorn’s five wins led the series, along with his four Performance Friction Brakes Zero Drag Fast Time Awards. Thorn completed the season with seven top-five and eight top-10 finishes, while leading 461 laps in his eight starts. His finishing average was an amazing 2.5, while his qualifying average was an identical 2.5. Thorn won a series record $38,650 for his efforts. Despite finishing third in the standings, Thorn was pleased with the season, and the performance of the Campbell Motorsports FURY Race Cars Super Late Model. We were happy to finish the season with five wins, after only running a partial schedule, Thorn told the SPEARS Southwest Tour Series. Byron Campbell and Mike (Keen) have put together an awesome program. That awesome program resulted in big wins both within, and outside the series. The Lakeport, CA native, along with the Campbell Motorsports Team, made the trip across the country for the 52nd Annual Snowball Derby Weekend, at 5 Flags Speedway in Pensacola, FL. Thorn won the pole for the Derby and nearly won the 300-lap feature. But a controversial call, before a green-white-checkered finish, sent Thorn from third to the tail end of the field. It ultimately resulted in his retirement. In the Snowflake 100 Pro Late Model event, Thorn qualified second, and became the first driver west of the Mississippi to win the event. His favorite moment in his SRL season, was an accomplishment that had continued to allude him for years. It was a victory in the $10,000-to-win "Retro Custom Metals 150 presented by Pinnacle Peak Steakhouse San Dimas, that included a custom trophy. It was a six-foot-tall custom brass cupola, from long-time series supporter David Nava Mulcahy, better known as Homie. We've been wanting one of Homie’s Retro Custom Metal trophies for a while now, so to win Vegas, take that, and the $10K home was awesome, Thorn exclaimed! Then to cap it off with a Derby Pole and Snowflake 100’ win, made it just that much better. The 2020 season, in the SPEARS Southwest Tour Series, is sure to be a record breaker. With big payouts, special formats and other exciting occurrences, the competition level is sure to increase. It is something that Thorn looks forward to, whether he runs for the championship, of participates in a limited schedule. The better the competition, the more fun it is, Thorn explained. We don't know what our full race schedule is yet for 2020. We've only run the SRL full time in four years. Every other year there has been a schedule conflict. Time will tell how races overlap this year. Thorn is enjoying his time behind the wheel of a Super Late Model. He is happy to have the chance to compete with a first-class team, and to be able to compete at the highest level of short track racing. Byron and Carol have given me such a great opportunity to race the last 8-9 years, Thorn stated. Just to be racing, and have the chance to go out and run competitively at some of the biggest races in the country, is all a driver could ever ask for. The memories will last a lifetime. For the opportunities that he has been afforded, Thorn is appreciative to the team, and his sponsors that make it possible. First off, I really need to thank Byron and Carol Patrick Campbell for making this all happen, Thorn began. I really appreciate my Crew Chief Mike Keen, as well as Vicki Duke Keen, for all that they do to make this program so great. I have the best crew in Sal Arceo, David Coley, Steve Rodriguez and Adrian Arceo. I am also very fortunate to have great sponsors like 51 FIFTY LTM, H & M Motorsports, Santa Maria Brewing Co. Inc, Double Eagle Transportation, Reeves Complete Auto Center Inc. S and S Insulation, Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, AP Racing Brakes, Advanced Racing Suspensions, FURY Race Cars, Eibach Springs, Strange Oval, Magnus Rear Ends, Hightower Transmissions, Joes Racing Products, Victory Circle Chassis & Custom Fabrication, Finishline Signs, Joiner Motorsports, Performance Parts Supply and West Air. The next event on the schedule is the season opener at Irwindale Speedway. The event will be very special for Thorn, as his former NASCAR ARCA Menards West Series car owner Bob Bruncati, will be one of the driving forces behind the weekend. The resumption of the All-Star Showdown will pay $25,000 to the winner of the 200-lap Feature Event, thanks to Sunrise Ford, Bob Bruncati and the West Coast Stock Car Hall of Fame. Over $75,000 will be paid out to the 36 starters, plus additional cash bonuses for the drivers eligible for the Spears Manufacturing Frequent Flyer Program. Celebrating its twentieth season in 2020, the SPEARS Southwest Tour Series is a regional stock car series competing on paved ovals in the southwestern portion of the U.S. The SPEARS Southwest Tour SeriesWhere the Champions Race.

When it comes to the best in the Spears Srl Southwest Tour Series, no conversation can start without mentioning the name Derek Thorn. Thorn has been the most s...uccessful driver in the series history, and has been recognized as one of the top-10 short track drivers of the last decade, according to Speed51.com. Thorn will take his act to the Sixth Annual Winter Showdown at Kern County Raceway on March 21st. He will look for his second win in the event, as well as solidifying his name as one of the best short track drivers in the country. Thorn has an incredible 42 SRL victories in 88 starts, to go along with his four series championships. He has 66 top-five and 74 top-10’s, as well as 56 career "Performance Friction Brakes Zero Drag Fast Time Awards. Equally, if not more impressive, is his record of finishing events in his Campbell Motorsports Super Late Model. Since 2009, Thorn has finished all but eight events, for a 91% finishing rate. His car has been almost bulletproof. But those numbers are reduced, when it comes to marque events in the Super Late Model, mostly due to bad luck. Even so, Thorn has multiple big wins, which include the $25,000-to-win SRL Winter Showdown, the "Allen Turner Snow Flake 100" at 5 Flags Speedway, the $15,000-to-win Open Comp at the LVMS Bullring and Dirt Track, the $15,000-to-win Spears Manufacturing Colorado 100 from Pikes Peak International Raceway, the $25,000-to-win "Sunrise Ford All-Star Showdown" at Irwindale Speedway as well as two Pro Late Model wins at the "World Series of Asphalt Short Track Auto Racing" at New Smyrna Speedway. He also has an ARCA Menards Series West victory at Sonoma Raceway on NASCAR Cup weekend. But Thorn could have several additional big wins, as bad luck and uncharacteristic mechanical issues have followed him in extended distance events. At the 2019 Summer Showdown, he lost a motor while leading, with 44 laps to go. He also fell victim to a flat tire in the 2017 edition, rendering him two-laps down, with arguably the fastest car. The 2019 Snowball Derby, at 5 Flags Speedway, saw him put to the rear, on a late race controversial race control call. Thorn was leading the 2016 Winter Showdown, when rear end issues sidelined the four-time Spears Srl Southwest Tour Series Champion. He has also finished runner-up in some of the biggest races in the country. Those include twice in the All American 400 at Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway, the Summer Showdown, Winter Showdown, Las Vegas Open Comp and Southern Idaho 222 at Magic Valley Speedway to name a few. As he heads to the 2020 Winter Showdown, Thorn hopes to stem the tide of misfortune and score his second Winter Showdown victory, if his luck holds out. It’s hard to predict luck, but we've been fortunate to win some big races, and look forward to trying to win some more, Thorn told the SPEARS SRL Southwest Tour Series. Byron Campbell and Mike Keen have a great thing going, and we will take it one lap at a time, and hope we have a shot at it at the end. When it comes to the extended distance, high-paying events, Thorn recognizes that the team has had more misfortunes, percentagewise, than at a standard 100-lap show. But he also recognizes that they have had fewer opportunities to participate, with a schedule of only a few per season. Thorn and the team just try to do the best they can, with the challenges they are given. We just try to make the most of the hand we're dealt each race, Thorn reasoned. We end up running more 100 lap shows throughout the year, so there is more opportunity to win those, versus the few big races we run a year. We show up as prepared as we possibly can be, and try to make the most of every opportunity. The 2020 version of the Winter Showdown will feature 200 laps of racing, with a break on lap 100 for tires, fuel and adjustments. Half of the purse structure will be paid out at that point, to encourage hard racing to the halfway break. The teams will then race to lap 200, for their final finishing order. It is a unique format that is sure to produce exciting racing throughout the event. But it could be a challenge for the drivers to keep their tires under them, for 100 laps. Kern is a tough place to pass, and with the tire problems we've had here, it just makes it that much tougher, Thorn assessed. Track position helps, and with this format, it should shake things up a bit, and hopefully make for some good racing. With a possible $15,000 on the line, Thorn is looking forward to competing at his new home track. He has already scored seven SPEARS SRL Southwest Tour Series event victories, in addition to his Winter Showdown win on the mile oval. The two-time ARCA Menards Series West Champion is happy to compete against a strong field of competitors, in front of his team’s hometown fans. Most of our team is from Bakersfield, Thorn stated. We're looking forward to putting on a good show, in front of our friends and family. It's looking like a great field of cars will be there, we will just take it a day at a time, and try to get our car where it needs to be, and hope the right side tires can stay in one piece. The 2020 schedule for the SPEARS Southwest Tour Series is filled with big paying events. Each of the 10 races payout the possibility of $10,000-to-win minimum. Thorn has been with the series since 2009, when he made his first start at Irwindale Speedway. He has seen the series grow over the years, and is happy to see the big paying events on the schedule. Thorn explained, The SRL has continued to grow over the last decade, and to get the support from series sponsors, to put on these big events, is awesome to see. Hopefully it's a sign of great things to come for the competitors and fans. To win as many races as the Campbell Motorsports Team has, it takes a good organization from top to bottom. They have a great owner, driver, crew chief, crew and sponsors that make the program possible. Thorn is thankful for each part of the equation that makes it possible. Byron and Carol Patrick Campbell have an amazing team, and have given me an opportunity of a lifetime to do what I love. Mike and Vicki Duke Keen are a huge part of the success of this program. Mike makes the cars haul butt, and Vicki makes sure everyone on the team is well fed, and taken care of. Sal, Steve and Adrian are on it every weekend. We couldn't do it without our sponsors: H and M Motorsports, Santa Maria Brewing Co, Double Eagle Transportation, 51 FIFTY LTM, Dave Reeves and Reeves Complete Auto Center Inc., Family Funeral and Cremation, AP Racing Brakes, Advanced Racing Suspensions, FURY Race Cars, Swift Springs, Triple R Transportation, Hightower Transmissions, Joes Racing Products, Victory Circle Chassis & Custom Fabrication, FinishLine Signs, Performance Parts Supply, West Air, Strange Oval and Joiner Motorsports. The 2020 Winter Showdown, from Kern County Raceway, is entering its sixth season of competition. It is supported by Spears Manufacturing, Motor City Buick GMC, Traffic Management, Inc.. and Visit Bakersfield. The previous winners of the event include Bubba Pollard Fan Page (2015, 2016), Derek Thorn (2017), Kyle Busch (2018) and Ty Majeski (2019). The previous Feature Events have included several formats, with distances of 250 laps (2015 - 2017), 300 laps (2018 2019) and this year’s 200-lap version. In 2020, the event will feature a halfway break, where half of the purse money will be awarded based on its’ result. The completion of 200 laps will wholly determine the final championship event finish, with the second half of the purse payout. Drivers eligible for the SPEARS Frequent Flyer Program will receive a minimum of $1,400 to start the feature. If required, eligible drivers who do not transfer from the Last Chance Qualifier will receive $1,000. The SPEARS Southwest Tour Series Super Late Models will be joined by the Spears Modified Series, as well as the Kern County Raceway Super Stocks. The Spears Modified Series will be racing for $4,000-to-win. The event will be Nationally televised on MAVTV, at a date to be named later. It will be Live Streamed on https://spearsracing.tv/.

Derek Thorn is no stranger to setting records in the SPEARS SRL Southwest Tour Series. The four-time series champion holds the record for most Wins, Fast Times..., Top-Five’s, Top Ten’s, Money Won, Laps Led and most importantly Championships. The Lakeport, CA native is now in the running for something no other driver in series history has done; taking home the championship while missing an event. He could also tie Jim Pettit with 5 overall Southwest Tour Series Championships. Thorn currently sits fourth in the SRL Championship Standings, after six of nine events. He has three victories already this season, giving him 39 in his career. What makes his season even more impressive is the fact that he missed race #5 of the season at Kern County Raceway, while participating at the Summer Showdown 200 at Evergreen Speedway (WA). The event is one that has been a source of frustration for the Super Late Model star. The 2019 edition was no exception, as Thorn lost a motor, late in the event, handing the lead, and eventual victory, to now Colorado star Preston Peltier. Despite the missed event, Thorn has climbed back into the thick of the championship standings, sitting 74 points behind championship leader Cole Moore. It was unfortunate the SRL schedule overlapped with the Summer Showdown, Thorn told the SPEARS Southwest Tour Series. We've made up a little ground, but the championship is still a long way out. We will focus on one race at a time, and the championship standings will fall where they may. If any driver on the west coast knows how to win a championship, it is Derek Thorn. Not only has he secured four SRL Championships, he also holds two titles in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West. His only non-title effort in that series, was the first full season in which he participated. He finished third that season. With his Campbell Motorsports team, he knows he has the car, crew and equipment to succeed. Consistency is a huge factor in championships, Thorn stated. Byron Campbell and Mike Keen have put together a race program that has equipment, that is not only fast, but is consistent each weekend. To pull out this championship, Thorn will need all those factors to gel, and to have a little luck in addition. The final three events of the season find Thorn heading to tracks at which success has followed him. Thorn has 20 combined Super Late Model victories at Madera Speedway, Kern County Raceway and the Bullring @ Las Vegas Motor Speedway. That number includes 6 wins, in his last nine starts, at Madera Speedway. It also includes a win in the October Classic at Kern County Raceway in 2018, and a victory in the $15,000-to-win Senators Cup at the Bullring. I’m looking forward to all of them, Madera, Vegas and Kern are all fun places to race, Thorn replied. We're just ready to get back racing again, it's been a while since Irwindale. Thorn is undeniably one of the most talented racers on the west coast. With all his success, it would be easy to be over-confident, and take credit for much of the team’s success. That is not Derek Thorn, however, as the now father of two is always appreciative of the opportunities he has had, and the effort his team and car owner put forth each season. I’d really like to thank Byron and Carol Patrick Campbell, Mike and Vicki Duke Keen, and everyone that travels on the road with us at Campbell Motorsports, Thorn stated. I also want to give a big thanks to our sponsors, that help keep us going: 51 FIFTY LTM Hronis Racing H and M Motorsports Santa Maria Brewing Co.
