Redwood Acres Fairgrounds 04.07.2021

Borrowing this post from one of our local Ag teachers.thought it would be helpful information to share for those considering on bidding. These kids have work...ed very hard on these projects! As an ag teacher, I’m going to give you the approximate cost breakdown for a typical market livestock project; The student has invested approximately; Market Hog: $750.00-900.00 Market Lamb: $650.00-800.00 Market Goat: $500.00- 900.00 Market Steer: $3000.00-4000.00 Rabbits: $100-250 Chickens:$100-200 Turkeys: $150-250 In addition, the time commitment is typically 10-11 months for a steer, 3-4 months for a hog, lamb, goat and 8 weeks for small animals. Just some general information if you’re wondering how hard these kids work to make these projects successful Many are also the breeders of their projects so the hours are on going for many years! Thank you for your awesome support! Every single bid is greatly appreciated!!!

HUMBOLDT COUNTY WE NEED YOUR HELP!! Please contact Jared Huffman and pressure him to support HR 7883! In the coming days, We expect Congress to seriously address COVID-19 relief. We need to keep pushing on every Congressman and Congresswoman to co-sponsor and support HR 7883, The Agricultural Fairs Rescue Act. This is our industry's best chance at some level of federal funding $500 million to be distributed through USDA to the department of agriculture in each state.... This bill now has 51 co-sponsors, and strong bipartisan support, but it is absolutely critical that the fair industry continue to push for this grant funding. More co-sponsors are needed!!! We know you’ve responded and reached out to your Representative. But you simply cannot let up now. Please try again as he has not yet committed to supporting this important piece of legislation. Redwood Acres Staff wants to thank you for the many you years of support, there is no time like the present to show how much the fairgrounds means to our community. Please click the link and simply send Mr. Huffman an email requesting he support HR 7883. https://huffman.house.gov/contact/email-me

Redwood Acres and all fairgrounds need your help! Please contact your local representative to get them to support two bills which provide financial assistance to fairgrounds, HR 7745 (Protecting Fairs During Coronavirus Act) and HR 7883 (Agricultural Fairs Rescue Act). If you live on the north coast, contact Congressman Jared Huffman https://huffman.house.gov/. Your voice makes a difference!

On July 23, 2020, Representative Josh Harder (D-CA-10) introduced the Protecting Fairs During Coronavirus Act (H.R. 7745) in response to concerns from county and state fair leaders. The bill would create a new emergency grant program to help offset the massive revenue losses our fairs are experiencing because of health care measures taken to combat the Coronavirus Pandemic. The Protecting Fairs During Coronavirus Act would establish a $5 billion federal grant program to offs...et fair revenue losses during the Coronavirus Pandemic. The fund would be available for both 2020 as well as 2021. States could apply for aid from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and then distribute the funds to fairs in their state. On July 30, 2020, Representative Jimmy Panetta (D-CA-20) introduced the Agricultural Fairs Rescue Act (H.R. 7883). The Agricultural Fairs Rescue Act would provide $500 million in grant funding to establish a program to award grants to states or state departments of agriculture to provide support to agricultural fairs for losses sustained by fairs during the Coronavirus Pandemic. Grant amounts shall be based on the difference between the average attendance at agricultural fairs in the state for a month occurring in 2019 compared to the corresponding month in 2020 Please reach out to congressman Jared Huffman. https://huffman.house.gov/contact/email-me To help support the effort, members of the public are urged to sign the online petition at https://www.change.org/SupportYourFairgrounds and email their local, state and federal elected officials via a list of resources at https://www.westernfairs.org/p/abo/support-your-fairgrounds
