911 service throughout San Bernardino County is getting a major enhancement with a new, more efficient process for handling incoming calls to determine the appropriate level of service. The San Bernardino County Council of Governments (SBCOG) has approved a contract with Mission Critical Partners to implement an Emergency Communication Nurse System(ECNS) Plan within the existing 911 network throughout the county. The Redlands Fire Department will continue to respond to 911 calls with paramedic units, but a separate ambulance may not be part of the response, based on the ECNS evaluation. Reward offered for information in June warehouse fire A reward has been offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspects responsible for a massive warehouse fire that caused millions of dollars in damage last June. Redlands Firefighters along with agencies from across Southern California battled the three-alarm fire at the 600,000-square-foot Kuehne and Nagel distribution warehouse in the 2200 block of West Lugonia Avenue early Friday morning, June... 5. No injuries were reported. Firefighters received the call of a commercial structure fire at the building at 2255 W. Lugonia Ave. at about 5:30 a.m. Friday, June 5. Arriving crews found heavy flames and plumes of thick black smoke that, at one point, could be seen from nearby mountain communities rising above the cloud layer. The blaze shut down the busy westbound lanes of Interstate 10 for several hours. About 100 employees of the distribution center were able to evacuate prior to the Fire Department’s arrival. No injuries were reported. Fire agencies from throughout San Bernardino County and other surrounding communities responded to fight the fire. Ladder trucks surrounded the massive structure pouring water on the flames throughout the day and into the evening. Fire crews remained on scene for about a week putting out hot spots as rubble was overturned at the site. Investigators remained on scene long afterward. The cause of the fire is considered suspicious. Redlands Fire Department and Police arson investigators are working on the investigation in cooperation with the Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms. Damage is estimated in the hundreds of millions of dollars. The building was home to Kuehne and Nagel, a third-party operator that helps Amazon ship extra-large items to customers. In cooperation with ATF, a $5,000 reward has been offered for information leading to the identification, arrest and conviction of the suspect or suspects. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Redlands Fire Department tip hotline at (909) 245-6587 or Redlands Fire Department Investigator Chris Randolph at [email protected] and/or Redlands Police Detective Matt Friesen at [email protected].

Fire damages trolley car, power poles next to packing house Redlands Firefighters responded to an early morning fire at the former Mutual Orange Distributors Packinghouse early Tuesday morning. No injuries were reported and the building was not damaged. An antique trolley car next to the building was destroyed. Units arrived at the packing house at 330 3rd St. shortly before 4:30 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 1, to find the trolley car and two power poles next to the building well invol...ved in flame. Firefighting efforts were hampered by live, arcing power lines above the trolley car. Southern California Edison crews responded and shut down power to the poles. The fire was extinguished within about 30 minutes. Fire crews successfully prevented the fire from damaging the historic 1912 packing house, which is the site of the planned Redlands Public Market. Damage to the antique trolley is estimated at $25,000. Power was lost to a portion of downtown and Edison crews were still on scene as of 3 p.m. Tuesday. Three personnel from Loma Linda Fire Department assisted Redlands Firefighters. Fire crews remained on scene for approximately two hours. The cause of the fire is under investigation. Anyone who witnesses suspicious activity in the area is asked to contact Redlands Police at (909) 798-7681, ext. 1. In June 2019 Arteco Partners unveiled plans for the Redlands Public Market inside the historic packinghouse. Originally built in 1912 as a citrus packing house, the building was later purchased by the City. It stood vacant for many years until being purchased by Arteco Partners with plans to transform the building into a culinary marketplace celebrating Redlands' agricultural heritage and local cuisine.

On the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month in 1918 a temporary cessation of hostilities, between the allied nations and Germany, went into effect. The armistice was signed and World War I concluded. Soon after, November 11, 1918 was regarded as the end of the war to end all wars. . One year later, in November 1919, President Wilson proclaimed November 11 as the first commemoration of Armistice Day, a day to commemorate veterans of World War I. On this day in 1919, w...ork stopped at 11 a.m. and the entire country celebrated together. . Congress made the annual observance official in 1938 as Armistice Day. This day has been a federal holiday ever since, now under a different name. . After World War II, in 1954, the day became a day to honor American veterans of all wars. In October 1954, President Eisenhower officially changed Armistice Day to Veterans Day and created the Veterans Day National Committee. In France, Armistice Day is still celebrated on November 11 each year. . THANK YOU VETERANS! See more

Winds spread vegetation fire in Santa Ana River wash Redlands Firefighters responded to a vegetation fire in the Santa Ana River wash near Orange Street Monday, in the same area as another recent fire. The fire, dubbed the Orange Fire 2, had burned approximately 23 acres as of 5:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 26, and briefly threatened homes in the area of Riverview Drive.... Firefighters, responding at about noon to reports of a vegetation fire in the area of Orange Street and the Santa Ana River, wash observed a large column of smoke and requested additional resources from the San Bernardino Unit of Cal Fire, the Bureau of Land Management and the City of Highland. Additional engines from San Bernardino County Fire Department, the San Bernardino National Forest and the City of Yucaipa also responded. Air resources were requested but were unavailable due to 25-30 mph wings with gusts up 50 mph. Bulldozers were also unable to operate in the wash due to endangered habitat in the area. Winds carried embers south of the Santa Ana River bed, briefly threatening homes along Riverview Drive before firefighters stopped the fire’s forward momentum at about 4 p.m. Fire crews will remain on scene overnight, improving fire lines, and are expected to remain on scene for several more days. In September, a fire in the same area burned about 37 acres and continued smoldering for more than a week as a result of decades-old wood product left behind, following the closure of the Big Bear Lumber Company, which operated in the area from 1953 until it was closed in 1982. The cause of Monday’s fire is undetermined. No injuries or structure damage have been reported.
