A repost from our sisters and brothers at Bridge in Yangon, Myanmar. We stand with you. Stay strong and let freedom ring loud and true in Myanmar. Liberté, égalité, fraternité. #savemyanmar _______________________... As easy as one, two, three, the hopes of a generation, crushed in a fist. Yet, as millions take to their windows and civil servants add their voices of dissent, the creative community, too, are filling digital platforms with the three fingered salute. Liberté, égalité, fraternité. These gestures that take us from the one, two, three, to the four, five, six. A drop in the ocean, but together an ocean of droplets: We stand with you, hands raised, hearts flooded. Meet Sharon Pan, our newest designer, creative mind, and resident illustrator. Sharon in a nutshell: I’m a budding creative, fresh out of college! I am a mother of a small army of houseplants and a lover of light-hearted sitcoms. Catch me doodling aimlessly or binge watching anime and crime/alien/supernatural documentaries.... Something I’m really good at: Illustrating! I have been doodling since the day I could hold a pencil and have involved myself with all kinds of subjects and mediums. A recent favorite of mine has been gouache paint. My short term goals as an illustrator are to run a successful online sticker and print shop, illustrate a travel zine, and perfect my hand-lettering. How I stay inspired: Whenever I encounter creative blocks, I usually try to work through them. A lot of the work that I’m the proudest of has come out of exhausting every option possible even if it means sketching out ideas I don’t initially think will be successful. I often surprise myself with what comes out of my ‘design dump’. Of course a margarita can also help to keep the creative juices flowing. Words of advice for anyone pursuing a career as a creative: Surround yourself with people who inspire you and challenge you to grow creatively! I’ve found that building a community of motivated creatives to work alongside has helped me to push myself to learn new skills, embrace experimentation, and become comfortable with receiving, implementing, and giving feedback. It’s difficult to be creative in a vacuum, so make sure your environment and everyone in it is vivacious, inspiring, and passionate. If stuck on a desert island: If the world was normal, I would say that I would be living my best introverted life with Netflix, my drawing tablet, and an endless supply of Itoen brand green tea. But after social distancing for so long, I would hope to fly in my friends and my dog!

As we enjoy the last few weeks of summer, we’re looking towards cooler autumn days. The tranquility of the natural world around the Bay Area helps us rest and recharge. #MomentsFromRecreation

Every year on the International Day of the Girl, UNICEF launches an annual campaign to amplify the voices of girls around the world. This year’s theme is My Voice, our Equal Future. Right now, more than ever, we celebrate the progress and opportunities RBG ushered in for women throughout her life. Here’s to the bright future of girls everywhere.

Meet Thomas Love, our shooter/editor! Thomas in a nutshell: I’m a quarter-century old fellow. I grew up in the mountains and enjoy open spaces and early-morning light. I’m a fur father to an Alaskan Malamute named Lily. It’s been great living, working, and creating in such a diverse environment as San Francisco. I love learning new things and always pushing myself forward in whatever I am pursuing. I’m grateful to work with such a talented group of people at Recreation. ... Something I’m really good at: I’m handy at times. I built a Tiny House, a boat, and a few other things. It relates well to being on set. It’s very hands on and sometimes takes ingenuity and a little tinkering to make things work. How I stay inspired: My passion is to tell stories with a camera, big or small, to capture and create something that might inspire. I want my cinematography to let the audience see a new perspective, taste something unknown that’s out of reach, or be inspired by someone’s story they otherwise would never have heard. Words of advice for anyone pursuing a career in video: Keep shooting no matter what equipment or environment you have. Try new things and don’t be afraid to fail. If stuck on a desert island: I’d hope for coffee and company.
