You know that feeling that comes over you when you complete something you’ve been working on and thinking about for weeks, months, or even years? A mix of pride, a sense of accomplishment, and a touch of excitement for what comes next...or maybe it’s different for each of us? Well, that’s what I hope for each of our students when they finish those projects that they’ve really poured themselves into. This 15 year old artist has recently finished both of these projects that she’s worked on throughout this year, and I couldn’t be more proud of her and all that she’s learned in just these two paintings. More record paintings!! So much fun! Both our virtual students and in-person students joined in on creating these epic pieces.

Ok, not so instant, but finally posting a handful of the painted records that I managed to snap pictures of. It was so fun seeing students work on these, many of whom had never seen a vinyl record before. They started by doing composition studies to create the design, which we prompted with a discussion about music and how it makes us feel. The results were extensive. LONG POST OF GRATITUDE . . Kintsugi is the Japanese art of repairing broken vessels with gold. The idea embraces the imperfection and flaws and seen more beautiful and even stronger; exemplifying the Zen Buddhist philosophy of Wabi Sabi. .... . This year has been broken into an undetermined number of pieces, and for each of us those pieces look different, but broken none the less. With this new round of shutdowns I’ve realized that I’m not repairing my vessel alone, but rather with the support of the most incredible community that has been built over the past four years through Rebel, and those repairs radiate with most brilliant gold I’ve ever seen. I truly do not know how to put into words the gratitude and love that I have for each and everyone of you. I am beyond thankful to continue inspiring, exploring, and creating with all of you. . .
