The first bounce house was nothing more than an inflatable mattress to jump on. Inventor John Scurlock quickly made improvements, adding walks and a roof as well as circulating air.

Like so many inventions, the creation of the bounce house was quite by accident. John Scurlock in 1962 was trying to come up with an inflatable cover for tennis courts, swimming pools and the like when he noticed how much fun his workers had on the inflatables.
