Congrats to amazing @rainvaldez for this years Emmy nomination Best short series & Best actress short series! Razor Tongue employs 80% #transgender, #queer, #female and #POC identified people in front of and behind the camera. An important component to creator Rain Valdez who is the first #AAPI transgender member of the #TimesUp Movement. The seven-part series was crowdfunded, shot in 4 days and has an all-female directing team: @natalie_aech , @sarahpoynter12 , @kalenaranoa... and @puppetthappens. @ava.benjamins serves as DP. Belle Jonas is a trans protagonist that gets to be messy, funny, have sex and fall in love. Watch Razor Tongue if you haven’t yet and let all your friends and family know about it. Xx #fyc What are some of the other themes and concepts you sought to call attention to with this show? -@outmagazine @jacobtobia The show isn't just about calling people out. It's also about discovering self love and what it means to have a voice, about confronting the consequences of situations you hadn't been in before until you actually take a stand for something. I thought a soapy comedy but with queer people would be a fun concept. I love characters that are nuanced, have a lot of complexity, and are raw. At the end of the series, Belle is forced to interrogate what exactly it is that she stands for. Is she a fraud or isn't she? Everyone will be able to relate to that. And if I may let my ego speak, I also just wanted to call attention to my skills as an actor, writer, and producer.
