We would like to recommend the book Just Mercy by Bryan Stevenson. This book is being read by many of our teachers and we would love to discuss is with our community. There is a Young Adult edition that recommended for our students 12 and up.

Join us this week as we solve a Viking riddle, collect a Mayan treasure and solve a mystery. Our escape rooms will take us outside of the REALM and have us using our brains and our bodies to escape. It may have been cloudy but we were feeling nothing but sunny! awesome beach day with our campers as they learned to surf, boogie boarded, learned about waves from the lifeguard, and played games in the sand.

We are so excited to start classes this week! Our first day of classes will be Wednesday September 2. For those already enrolled make sure to join your Google Classroom so you have all the latest information. Teachers have been prepping some amazing lessons. And we are integrating awesome technology to make our Zoom classes fun, interactive, and engaging.

This week we will be featuring and learning about the history of the 19th Amendment. This year we celebrate the 100th anniversary of the ratification on this amendment. Ratified on August 18, 1920 the 19th Amendment states the right to vote shall not be denied or abridged on account of sex. This was a huge victory for women, which previously had been limited in or denied their full rights as citizens. This victory was won because of the hard work of Americans from across differing backgrounds. I look forward to showcasing some of these champions of American history this week. And as a reminder our right to vote is a precious one and we must be every vigilant of attempts to hinder any citizens right to vote. #realmacademy #19thamendment #savetheusps

Today we remember the 55th anniversary of the signing of the Voting Rights Act. The act banned the use of literacy tests, provided for federal oversight of voter registration in areas where less than 50 percent of the non-white population had not registered to vote, and authorized the U.S. attorney general to investigate the use of poll taxes in state and local elections. While we celebrate the advances that this Act did for voting rights we must remember that voter suppression is still happening. As we move closer to Election Day this year make sure your voting registration is up to date, keep an eye out for voting suppression that is happening around the country and use your voice to speak out for those who may be silenced. Our democracy depends on all voters be given an equal opportunity to vote.
