Talked about how we design and build the sets we use to document our fixtures in our Stories today. Everything is built, staged and photographed in our Glassell Park studio. To document our Grain Family, we set our Grain Drum in balance with the delicate details of a tea ceremony. The set features a table we designed paired with stools from a collection that Brendan inherited from his father, who was once the chief curator of the @Smithsonian National Museum of African Art and collected these (& many other) stools over his 17 years of living and working in West Africa, where Brendan grew up in #CotedIvoire. This house has been on my must-see list since I bought a book on the architect, Ernesto Gomez Gallardo, when we first visited Casa Barragán. I just need to see that spiral staircase in person.

The Japanese ideology of Wabi-Sabi embraces the beauty of the imperfect and the transient grace of ever-changing nature. In Wabi-Sabi, true beauty’s luster grows with time and use. Ada Corten was designed in pursuit of this ideal, an outdoor sconce that will continue to change in response to its environment.

We are excited to announce that our Ada Corten Sconce is now a stock fixture able to ship in 2-4 weeks! Ada Corten was first launched as a limited edition to celebrate our Ada Sconce becoming wet rated. The initial run quickly sold out and we decided to make the Corten a standard offering. After more than a year of searching, sourcing and experimenting, we finally found a vendor to provide sheets of pre-oxidized material. We then took this material to our sheet metal vendor who, with great care, laser cut and bent the Corten sheets to create our Ada Corten Sconce.

The events of these last weeks have caused all of us at BRS to reflect on what more we could do to help fight injustice in this country. As a Studio we’ve begun the long process of trying to bring about lasting change. Studio members have each nominated an organization to support and we have made a donation totaling $3250 to the causes listed below. We’ve also dedicated six days of Studio time for Community Actions suggested by our team between now and Election Day. These will be days when the Studio comes together to try to change our community and our own place of work for the better. We won’t stop here. We are glad to support: @thelovelandfoundation @aclu_nationwide, @campaignzero @btfacollective @eji_org, @theokraproject @bldpwr @theconsciouskid

We stand with our community here in Los Angeles and everywhere in saying #blacklivesmatter. Nothing will change until we all can acknowledge the privilege that comes with being white in America and the danger that comes with being Black. There is no reckoning with murder in the streets during a pandemic that is already disproportionately sickening and killing people of color. #blacklivesmatter
