This horseman's pledge to the horse. I will never forget that our relationship was my choice and not yours. Because this relationship is of my doing I will take... responsibility for how it evolves through through my leadership. If I am unsatisfied with your performance or attitude I will not blame you or those who have handled you in your past. I will look to myself to find better ways to communicate my desires and expectations in ways that you can accept and do not rob you of your dignity or spirit. I will remember that your nature is not the same as mine . Realizing this I will do my best to work together through your nature, not break you to mine. I will do my best to protect you and not betray your trust by setting you up to fail through lack of preparation . I will not expect you to be what I can not find in myself to be. If you are not confident, precise , consistent or happy, I know I must find these things in myself first. I will try to be aware of you and do everything in my power to be the kind of leader that I would want to follow. I will value you and try not to take advantage of your good nature and willingness. I will not risk your physical or mental well being with shortsightedness or for quick personal gains. I will always strive to improve myself to be the best for you I can possibly be. I will put your needs and well being above my expectations and desires. Bruce Sandifer 2020
Oh hello there recently, I've been sharing some basic riding communication skills with my students that can really clean up your conversations with your horse. Taking the time to get these little things clear and fluid can take the lisp out of what you're trying to ask for. Most of the time, I find that horses aren't doing as you've asked because they either don't understand clearly, are anxious because they're trying to avoid punishment or they physically can't due to fit...ness, pain or a balance issue. Here, Griff helps me demonstrate these concepts. I'm using very exaggerated body language- which is the best way to retrain your brain to be precise- especially if you're already an experienced rider with established habits. Let me know what you think! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lPksqB_N13Y
Good friends, good horses, sunshine and a beautiful place.
I got more ambitious in my laziness.
Just a couple horses playing- and one helping me. A lot.
No passing zone. By decree of the Queen. (Warning- whistle at the beginning is loud, but her bossy squeals are adorbs)
The OG and the second in charge
A proper way to start the day
