It was only 100 years ago that the #19thAmendment was ratified, giving some women the right to vote. Despite its passage, many women of color were barred from voting for decades through racial discrimination and intimidation. To honor this centennial and the ongoing work toward achieving equity, @LACountyArts collaborated with the @LACWGI to commission six artists to create original commemorative artworks. The results reflect a diversity of women and perspectives, and celebra...te themes such as empowerment, civic engagement, resiliency, and the right to vote. The artists chosen were Andrea Monroe, Amy Smith, Clarence Williams, Laura Vazquez Rodriguez, Moses X Ball, and Ragni Agarwal. Of the artists chosen, two are self-taught, three also paint murals, one has a Pulitzer Prize, two are graphic designer/illustrators, and one makes wearable art.
