Last week on June 17th, 2021, the Juneteenth Act was signed into law by President Biden, creating June 19th, Juneteenth, Black Independence Day, Emancipation Day, and also known as Jubilee Day, a Federal Holiday! As part of American History, Juneteenth presents its own meaning to Asian American David Shih. June is Pride Month To celebrate our LGBTQ+ community, let's remember that using the appropriate pronouns is the first step towards respecting people's gender identity and creating a welcoming environment for all. We use pronouns in everyday speech and writing to take the place of people's names, sometimes without even thinking about it. Let us not forget that words are a powerful language tool that helps us connect and convey meaning. Below you'll find an article ...from NPR that can help us all show respect by using the correct pronouns for individuals. https://www.npr.org//gender-identity-pronouns-expression-g

It has been a hard year and the holiday season feels particularly welcome now, especially for our team and residents at RAMS’ Broderick Adult Residential Program, which has continued to operate 24/7 throughout the year. The Broderick Program isn’t just a long-term residential facility for adults and older adults with both physical and behavioral health challenges; it’s also a home for our 27 residents. Like many homes, we celebrate birthdays, milestones, and holidays. Each y...ear, we give our residents a holiday gift in December as a small reminder that they’re a part of a family here at Broderick Street. Depending on what each resident needs, gifts may be winter jackets, shoes, wallets, movies, music, or other such items. We want to give each of our residents a gifts and care packages valued at least $30 per resident. To make this possible, we’ll need your help. If you’d like to be one of our residents’ Secret Santa, please go to https://ramsinc.org/donate/, donate at least $30, and type SECRET SANTA in the Description box on the second page of the form. After we order the gift and care package items, we’ll let you know what was made possible by your generosity! If you donate more than $30, we’ll let you know all the gifts that your donation made possible!

In 2010, RAMS spearheaded the effort to establish May 10 as Asian Pacific American Mental Health Day for the City and County of San Francisco and the State of California. With the APA population facing unique challenges due to the cultural stigma surrounding mental health, it was important to establish a day acknowledging those challenges and celebrating the people working to face them. This year, May 10 coincides with Mother’s Day. With mothers across the world juggling even more during the pandemic, our staff wanted to wish everyone a Happy Mother’s Day and APA Mental Health Day from everywhere we are as we work from home, our residential facility, and our offices.
