Diwali is the festival of lights which symbolize the spiritual "victory of light over darkness, of righteousness over treachery, good over evil, of truthover falsehood and knowledge over ignorance. It is believed that on this day Rama returned to his people after 14 years of exile during which he fought and won a battle against the demons and the demon king, Ravana.The main stories at the center of the days-long festival feature heroes... defeating demons, restoring balance to a troubled world. Lakshmi, the goddess of fortune both material and spiritual is worshipped as the bringer of blessings for the New Year,as well as Ganesh, destroyer of obstacles. It is a festival of the light which shows us the way on our journey through life. The purpose is to glorify the light of God. It is He who bestows the real light, the everlasting light upon the darkness of this mundane world We decorate our homes with lanterns, and lights and candles.Those lanterns signify God’s light, penetrating through the ignorance and sin of our daily lives. A home bathed in light is a home in which anger, pain and ignorance are being dispelled; it is a home that is calling to God. It should symbolize the personal relationship between God and our families. Let the light penetrate inward, for only there will it have lasting benefit. Happy Diwali!
