Happy Intersex Awareness Day! This day is to highlight the many struggles and accomplishments that the intersex community has faced. The community still continues to fight for justice against discrimination, physical or verbal violence, and non-consensual medical interventions. The intersex community has achieved multitudes through activism and calls for justice. Today we celebrate the strides that the intersex community has achieved and encourage solidarity and support to ensure their safety and acceptance. Happy International Pronouns Day! This day strives to encourage proper pronoun usage and educate on the effects of misgendering and disrespect of one's pronouns, especially for those of our community that are trans and gender-nonconforming. It is pertinent to create an environment where our community members can feel safe and welcomed, and not ostracized for their gender and/or gender expression. For cis allies, volunteering pronouns in introductions and everyday conversations can help normalize pronouns in our society. This is just one step, but it should be all our goals to make our marginalized folks feel safe and accepted for their gender and presentation! Today, as we mark National Coming Out Day, we want to acknowledge that this day can have many complicated implications for members of the LGBT+ community. While publicly sharing one’s identity can be empowering to some, coming out can be a difficult process to navigate and is not an option or goal for everyone, especially for those with multiple marginalized identities. We invite you to reflect on your own coming out experiences today, and to learn more about the many meaning...s this holiday holds for other members of the queer community. These articles are a great way to learn more about the implications of "coming out": https://www.theatlantic.com/.../on-national.../280469/ https://entropymag.org/why-i-hate-october-national.../ First Picture doodles of two friends who happen to be gay, a rainbow, and a heart, with text that reads, "your gay is okay whichever way you choose to be today" Second picture quote from the article titled "Dont Disparage the Closet" (2013) by Preston Mitchum that reads, "Ultimately, coming out is important because it makes the LGBT community more visible, particularly for black LGBT individuals. But focusing so intensely on coming out places the burden on the individual to brave society rather than on society to secure the safety of the individual. In the name of 'visibility,' the victims of repeated discrimination are forced to ensure they are seen." Third picture quote from the article titled "Why I Hate October: National Coming Out Day" (2015) by Kamden Hilliard that reads, "The language of ‘coming out,’ is the language of emergence from hiding, and I refuse to acknowledge anything that tells me how to hide or how to emerge." all three pictures have pink/blue/purple gradient background

October is LGBTQIA+ History Month. While we celebrate recent victories like the Supreme Court ruling in Bostock v. Clayton County, we must also acknowledge we have further to go to achieve full equality. We stand on the shoulders of ordinary people made extraordinary by their choices and their courage. Ancestors who refused to accept a world unwilling to make room for them. Now is a time to honor them with action. [Image Descriptions: The first image has a lavender backgroun...Continue reading
