It's the time of the year to look for vagrant birds with the Mt. Diablo Audubon Society. Different from fall vagrants, most vernal vagrants sing. This is how we found a singing AMERICAN REDSTART (dropbox link: https://www.dropbox.com/s/khf31ijbi33oybj/AMRE.mp3?dl=0 ) at the Earthquake Trail - Point Reyes. Other highlights were BLACK VULTURE flying above, WESTERn WOOD-PEWEE sitting on nest & SNOWY PLOVER (male) on an active nest. Great to spend time with Mt. Diablo Audubon Society Thank you to our wonderful National Parks Service red-vested Snowy Plover Docents!

After more than 100 species of birds, including most Baja California Sur endemics, and great looks at over 20 Gray Whales, our trip concluded in the beautiful Pueblo de Todos Santos. Great to collaborate with the Golden Gate Audubon Society and it’s popular international travel program.

We set to find the endemic Baird’s Junco. It wasn’t easy after hiking 2 miles uphill, but we did it !
