US flu activity remains elevated, CDC reports CDC officials reported that flu activity remains elevated across the country, and a second wave of severe infections is affecting some states. Officials reported widespread flu activity in 48 states and Puerto Rico, and flu-related pediatric deaths for the season increased to 64 during the week ending March 2.

New York State Lawmakers Introduce Bill That Would Allow Minors To Get Vaccinated Without Parental Consent. The AP (3/8) reported a new bill in the New York state Legislature would allow minors [14 years of age or older] to get vaccinated without parental consent. Assemblywoman Patricia Fahy (D) and state Sen. Liz Krueger (D) say the change is needed because too many parents have accepted unsupported claims that vaccines are unsafe. The lawmakers also say the problem is prompting a resurgence of diseases like measles and endangering children who cannot be immunized for medical reasons
