Welcome Dr. Agna Mung! She is joining our Providence family today. Dr. Mung grew up right here in Alameda and developed a passion to help animals after watching Animal Cops in high school. She graduated from the University of California, Davis with a B.S. in animal science and returned a couple years later to earn her veterinary medical degree in 2018. In her spare time, Dr. Mung enjoys hiking local trails and occasionally taking her dog, Butter, on the more relaxing hikes. She also enjoys reading romance novels, binge watching Asian dramas, and jamming out to BTS.

"Just as the novel coronavirus pandemic has upended our daily lives, it has also changed those of our pets, many of which are getting a lot more attention and a lot more walks. But for many dogs and their owners, those walks have also changed: They are imbued with new anxieties, altered routines and carefully modified routes." https://www.washingtonpost.com//13/dogs-walking-coronavi/

Dear Providence Veterinary Family, Today we are writing to affirm that Providence stands in solidarity with Black Lives Matter. The senseless deaths of George Floyd, of Breonna Taylor, of Miciah Lee, of Ahmaud Arbery, and of countless other Black lives have deeply saddened us and are propelling us to act. As veterinarians we swore an oath to "use [our] scientific knowledge and skills for the benefit of society through the promotion of public health." Racism is a social determ...inant of public health outcomes, and structural racism embedded deep within our country continues to impact the health of the very individuals, families, and communities we aim to serve. Veterinary medicine is one of the least diverse health care professions, where more than 92% of veterinarians are Caucasian. Diversity in veterinary medicine is essential to reduce health disparities, to better meet the needs of our community, and to make both this profession and the care that it offers accessible to everyone. To help increase racial diversity and inclusion in the veterinary profession, Providence has made a donation to the National Association for Black Veterinarians, an organization dedicated to expanding opportunities, education, and support for Black veterinary professionals. This profession requires us to be lifelong learners. To that end, we commit to doing the hard work of learning (and unlearning). We at Providence Veterinary Hospital & Clinic pledge to: Educate ourselves about systemic racism and work towards being anti-racist Never tolerate racism in our workplace or in our community Focus on recruiting a diverse workforce Hold our colleagues and local, state, and national veterinary organizations accountable No longer be silent about these important issues We have much work ahead of us, and we are eager to do our part. Sincerely, Your Providence Veterinary Hospital & Clinic Team National Association for Black Veterinarians: https://nabvonline.org/ JAVMA NABV article: https://www.avma.org//association-aims-increase-racial-div
