This is a very pleasant 47 year old lady referred to me by her hematologist for evaluation of recurrent DVT's in her left leg as well as recurrent Pulmonary Emboli. Over the last few years, her left leg was increasingly swollen, tender, and painful. The tenderness and swelling were significant and visible from across the room. Her symptoms understandably limited her ability to walk and exercise and significantly affected her quality of life. Compression stockings provided te...mporary and incomplete relief. Her DVT's first started 7 years ago without a definitive cause and were exclusively limited to her left leg. They recurred on several occasions despite being compliant with anticoagulation treatment. She had failed Coumadin, Lovenox, and novel oral anticoagulants (Xarelto) and hematologic genetic testing revealed no hereditary mutations as contributing factors to clotting. She was a non-smoker and had never taken oral contraceptives. Recurring, unprovoked DVT's in the left leg should raise concern for May Thurner Syndrome.
