Meet Bernie. Mom. Wife. Creative. Board member. Campaign chair. She overcame her fear in fundraising and look at the results! *****She and her team raised $63k in a month for iPads, chromebooks, internet hotspots and food for families at her school who needed help during the shutdown.***** Look at what beauty and love in tangible form, in this case dollars raised and needs met, comes from facing our fears!... Bernie is an amazing person and also my graphic designer. Her school that she is on the board of and was the campaign chair of, TLC Charter is an inclusive school for kids with all abilities and backgrounds to learn together in an environment of empathy and kindness. It was an easy yes to help them raise more money. I worked with Bernie as her coach and consulted on how to exceed their goal in a short mini campaign. Because that’s what I do! I’m so proud to see amazing leadership and organizations step up in a crisis and I’m grateful to be a small part of that.

Why do you think 14% all giving in the U.S. is in the last 3 days of the year? Here are a few reasons: 1 People wait til the last minute (duh, right?)... 2 They met with their financial planner or CPA in November/ early Dec and now know what they should give for tax purposes 3 Nonprofits wait til the last minute to ask! Why? Because we’d rather raise less money than risk a relationship and make it about money or come across greedy OR OR OR there are so many things that run through your head, right? When you are asking for a donation, you are actually extending an invitation. They can accept or decline. Accepting the invitation to give will absolutely make their life better, more meaningful, more beautiful and create a better world. It’s not up to you as the fundraiser though. Your part is to create a compelling invitation and then actually invite. And asking is NOT letting them know about the need, the vision and then saying we’d love for you to join us Join us in WHAT?! Get specific. Get clear. Ask big. People will give. Will you ask? If you don’t know what to say and need support, download my free script on how to raise more money right now on my website. prosforaco.com It will be the first thing you see. Big and bright and bold. You can’t miss it. Just click the link. Go ahead. Seriously, go.

I’m not comfortable asking for $xx,xxx. I hear that a lot. I know.... I know it’s a risk to ask for large gifts from people you actually know. I think it’s actually the scariest kind of fundraising there is! That’s why we’ve come up with aalllll these CrEAtIvE ways to fundraise. Silent auctions (you like stuff right?!), galas (who doesn’t love a chicken dinner?), special events, 5k runs/marathons, grants, contests, award ceremonieswe’d rather do all that than just ask someone straight up for money. To their face. I think sometimes we prioritize these strategies not because it’s smarter or more effective, but because it’s easier, less scary, less risky. One donor meeting can replace an entire silent auction. And think about all the time and energy you’d save! This giving season, let’s ask big. Let’s let our courage lead the way, not our comfort. My why as an entrepreneur I want to be a part of building a world where: every person has access to clean water and sanitation,... the color of your skin does not affect your opportunities or belonging, children are in school and not sold into marriage, people are free from slavery in all its forms, women and girls have access to economic opportunities, every human has a home and we take good care of our earth. Just to name a few. We must raise BILLIONS of dollars to build a world like this. We must first build the COURAGE to raise that money. I’m on a mission to build a more generous and courageous world. I do this by helping people get really good at fundraising. I want to build wealth and be generous. I love to give. I am generous and want to be an even big giver than we already are. I’m dreaming of one day writing a million dollar check to a charity! It’s a life dream of mine. When more money comes to me, I invest it in women, marginalized communities and BIPOC. 70% of the people I have hired to help me build my business are black women and women of color. Yes, 70%. I want to serve people who are on the front lines in these fights for justice by helping them become world-class at fundraising. I hope every person I serve becomes a better fundraiser than I ever have been! What is your why? Why do you do what you do? I’d love to know. Share your why below! @arivphoto
