A hungry #raccoon landed in a bit of trouble when he got stuck in a dumpster, but was luckily spotted by garbage collectors who called staff at San Diego Humane Society's Project Wildlife for assistance! Our team was able to rescue him without trouble, and, after a quick medical inspection, it was determined that the raccoon was healthy and ready to return to the wild. He was released later that evening, as these nocturnal creatures thrive at night! #wildlifewednesday

This is Raúl, the most senior bobcat resident at our Ramona Campus! Raúl was found orphaned in another county when he was just days old. By the time he was transferred to us, he had become imprinted on people and couldn't be released to the wild. These days Raúl spends most of his time relaxing on one of his hammocks and hanging out with his younger bobcat buddy, Kruger. #MondayMeow #bobcat #bobcats #wildlife #wildliferescue

We have an update on everyone's favorite mountain lion cub! While we've enjoyed helping her grow healthy and strong at our Ramona Wildlife Center, we're excited to report that she is now on her way to a new permanent home. This special cub headed off today for the Southwest Wildlife Conservation Center in Scottsdale, Arizona where she'll live with other mountain lions her age. We know she'll be in good hands as she continues her journey! #mountainlion #mountainlioncub #projectwildlife #wildlife #wildliferescue

With Halloween right around the corner, please keep our wild friends in mind if you decorate outside! Animals can get tangled in fake spider webs or injured by other types of décor. We also recommend avoiding anything with loops or closed circles, as animals can accidentally choke themselves if they poke their heads through while seeking a meal. #wildlife #protectwildlife #halloween #HalloweenDecor #halloweendecorations

We're not crying, you're crying. A good Samaritan brought a young goose to Project Wildlife after she swallowed a small fishing lure. While our medical team was caring for her, the goose’s worried parents called for her all night. With the finder’s help, we brought the young goose back to the same spot where she was found and her parents were thrilled to see her. We hope this sweet family reunion gives you goosebumps!

This very special tiny reptile recently arrived at Project Wildlife. Weighing just 3.4 grams, about the weight of 3 paper clips, Coast Horned Lizards are primarily found in desert and chaparral environments where they can easily camouflage among sand and rocks. This type of reptile is illegal to own and does not do well in domesticity, reminding us that wildlife is best left in the wild. While he's in our care, this small lizard is getting all the sunshine and mealworms his heart desires! #lizard #wildlife #projectwildlife #coasthornedlizard

Well friends, we're in for another hot week! Hannah Shirley is here to remind you to keep your family members of all species nice and cool in this weather. Our ambassador pygmy hippo simply loves her pool time, which also helps her beat the heat. Take a cue from this bathing beauty and find a way to have fun *out of* the sun. #hippo #pygmyhippo #beattheheat #wildlife

We're so happy to share that Jackie and Russell, the American black bear sow and her cub living at our Ramona Wildlife Center, are now on their way to Cleveland Amory Black Beauty Ranch (CABBR), an affiliate of The Humane Society of the United States. We are grateful to Bobbi Brinks of our local partner, Lions Tigers & Bears, who is transporting the bears to the CABBR facility in Texas where they will live out their lives in sanctuary. Our organizations have worked together numerous times over the years and we are thrilled to once again join forces to help these two special bears settle into a wonderful new home!

Parents with school-aged kids might be able to relate to hardworking mama bear Jackie. After many hours with energetic young Russell, we thought she deserved a few minutes to snack on her watermelon uninterrupted. Enjoy, Jackie!

Firefighters found a starving and severely dehydrated 12-week-old mountain lion cub near Idyllwild in September. Nearly unconscious and weighing less than 11 pounds when she arrived at our Ramona Campus, the young cub has needed medications and fluids daily. After five weeks of Project Wildlife's specialized care, the cub's health has greatly improved and she is now 22 pounds! Soon, she'll move to her permanent home at a qualified wildlife facility.
