Project Heartbeat 14.07.2021

As PHB23’s ride alongs start to come to an end and they prepare to take the NREMT, we want to thank the EMTs at @ruletogether and @eagleamb who allowed our students to shadow them on their ambulances Over the past several weeks, current EMTs have been showing our recently graduated students the ropes of EMS, and tips and tricks from the field. Thank you to everyone once again who had one of our graduates!

Our EMT program not only prepares students to pass the NREMT, but to push forward and excel as EMTs. Here we have one of our previous students Tyler at @ruletogether who just got promoted to FTO and won an award for Most Empathetic! We’re so proud of all of our student’s accomplishments , and we know Tyler will do a great job training new EMTs (hopefully a few of them will be students of our own!)

Check out two of our students on their first day of ride alongs with @eagleamb After completing the didactic portion of our accelerated EMT program, students must go at least 3 ride alongs with local ambulance companies in the Bay Area to start getting their patient contact hours. Good luck you two and the rest of PHB23!

Hear from Gabe, a former EMT PHB10 student, on why he picked Project Heartbeat’s 5 week accelerated EMT program to start his EMT career After college, I wanted to gain experience in healthcare prior to medical school, so I chose to become an EMT. In looking for programs, I started with local community colleges but was too late to register, leading me to accelerated programs like Project Heartbeat. With a convenient schedule and good reviews, I chose Project Heartbeat and re...ceived strong instruction and support from a team dedicated to training people they would trust with caring for their own loved ones. Shortly after graduating and obtaining my license, I began working at NorCal Ambulance as an EMT doing inter facility transfers at the BLS level but have gained loads of experience with the chronic medical conditions affecting the elderly in addition to work with the San Francisco Department of Public Health, San Quentin State Prison, and Kaiser Santa Clara’s NICU/PICU departments. Currently I work on a CCT team transporting patients needing more specialized care and got further ACLS training at PHB to better work alongside my crew. See more

Hear from Shashana, a previous EMT PHB-B SAC4 student about why she chose Project Heartbeat’s EMT program I chose Project Heartbeat as my Emt program of choice because of the class length and start time. Getting started in the class I was a bit nervous about how it was going to go, but right off the bat I felt at ease with the way the instructors led the course. They were there to answer my questions and make sure all students were on point with our skills from day one. I ...loved that the course didn’t mess around with their style of teaching and I definitely picked up the techniques better that way. I now work at Oroville Hospital as an ER Technician and will be applying to be on a 911 response rig when an EMT spot opens in my area. I also plan to continue my volunteering at PHB to help future students reach their goals while keeping my skills fresh. I feel confident I will continue to excel in both career areas because of my PHB family. PHB helped me prepare for my job by teaching real life situations and stressors vs just showing videos. The ER changes pace in the blink of an eye and it’s great to be able to say I feel capable in that environment because of the training I got from PHB. Thinking calmly under pressure and being able to assist the nurses was something I took away from trauma lanes and our blood pressure skills. Choose PHB for your EMT certification, you won’t regret it! Registration is still open for classes at the start of 2021 in Sacramento and Oakland! Meet Taylor! Taylor is one of our previous EMT students from PHB18 who has been coming back to volunteer as a skills instructor for our 5 week accelerated EMT program. Our EMT program has the support of several previous student volunteers like Taylor who dedicate their time in showing our current students how to properly perform basic EMT skills. Volunteering also opens doors at Project Heartbeat for a BLS instructor position, which Taylor is in the middle of training for. . Thank you to all of our volunteers!

Trauma Lanes To practice their trauma skills, our EMT PHB13 students ran through a series of trauma scenarios that put their skills to the test. From eviscerations to amputations, our students worked together as a team to tackle whatever challenges instructors threw at them to improve their trauma skills before graduation next week. Way to go PHB13 @ Project Heartbeat
