This is *technically* an announcement about DTLA being closed tonight due to one of our pizza makers having a bike accident (he’s ok! But not enough to throw pies...) but it’s really a post about running a restaurant during Covid. In normal times we would get on the phone and ask one of our other pizza makers to cover the shift, and normally we could probably find someone. But these days the amount of stress and anxiety that all of our employees deal with on a daily basis is ...so much higher than usual that asking an employee to work an extra day, take an extra bus ride or spend an extra night away from their family doesn’t feel worth it. These staffing issues will only get more difficult and turbulent once flu season starts and employees start getting colds and flus, the first symptoms of which will be impossible to differentiate from Covid. These types of temporary closures will be necessary to protect our employees, and without adequate guidance and testing from fed and local governments it falls on individual business owners to make these calls. All of this is to say: be kind. Be patient. Tip your drivers and cashiers if you can. While all of our employees are happy to have jobs right now, the stress is also very real. I hear it every day in the shops. We owe so much to them right now and I cannot thank them enough for working through this madness. Thank you so much for the support you’ve shown us through the pandemic, we are very grateful for your business and will keep doing everything we can to safely bring you pizza.
