UNARMED SECURITY OFFICER MURDERED Indianapolis IN November 2 2020 An unarmed security officer was shot to death downtown early Monday, police said. Officers fou...nd the man wounded by gunshots about 3:40 a.m. in the 300 block of East New York Street, Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department Officer Samone Burris said. The man was pronounced dead at an area hospital. IMPD Lt. Kerry Buckner said that the man was an unarmed security guard who had been patrolling the area near Needler's Fresh Market and Fusek's True Value Hardware when he was shot. "I can't think of anyone who would rob a security officer," Buckner said. "He was an unarmed security guard, so it wasn't like they would have thought he was a police officer." Police did not release information about a possible suspect. The Marion County coroner's office will release the man's name after he's been positively identified, and his family has been notified.
