One highlight of 2020 was getting to compete in @legendsmasterscomp. Last comp in my 30’s and @joe_linton84 & @thebobjennings did a great job programming to expose my weaknesses but also let me showcase some strengths! Looking forward to 2021 and aging up to 40-44 AG to compete with more beautiful badass women. Time to buckle down and build on those weaknesses! Could that sticky spot in your movement pattern be connected to a mobility or stability issue, a breathing issue, a core issue or even a fear issue? Often it could be a couple of these combined and you didn’t know it. . I’ve had several clients in the past week that experienced pain during a certain part of a movement pattern. In the picture above (taken pre-covid hence no mask) I was monitoring his breath and core pressure throughout the squat. . Do you think about your br...eath and core while moving? Ideally these should be functioning efficiently subconsciously, but to change them we have to bring it to the consciousness and train it! . The fun part about my job is playing detective and breaking it down with my clients. Educating them and then creating a plan to improve. . I want to welcome Trip, aka Trippy to the Primal Strength Family! This guy is a fighter and full of love. Thank you to @atchoofoundation for saving his (prof Valentino’s) life and getting him the medical care he needed in TJ! And thank you to @theanimalpad for rescuing and fostering him. One short clip of him on an IG story a couple weeks ago and I knew he was meant to be part my the family. . He is settling in well and already had a fun puppy play date with the other dogs at the gym this morning. We are eager to head to the vet tomorrow for his medical clearance appointment post hind leg FHO surgery. Then all the puppy rehab is in store for him . Tweaked Neck Tuesday hopefully that’s not a thing, but this exercise is if you wake up and have difficulty turning your neck. . Did you know that your 1st rib could be elevated and causing the limitation in your neck movement? . Sleeping funny, stress, faulty breathing and/or excessive use of your upper traps, scalenes could elevate your first rib causing dysfunction at the neck.... . Here I am using the strap anchored by my foot then over my shoulder with an inferior glide (downward force on the rib). This depresses my 1st rib allowing improved cervical range of motion. . As always, if your neck hurts, contact me or your medical provider for a thorough evaluation to get to the bottom of your symptoms and create a plan to address it! . A common question I get is How can I release my psoas? First thing...stop mashing away at that tissue and maybe consider feeding your brain a different stimulus! . Here is one of the ELDOA hip flexor stretches. Pay attention to the steps leading up to the movement to optimize the stretch and reach the target tissue instead of shearing away at the low back! . However if stretching doesn’t help, it may be tight bc it is weak! Often our bodies protectively tighten if s...omething is weak or unstable. This is a common finding with the psoas. So give strengthening a shot and see if it starts to relax and open up! . As always - the best thing to do is to get a thorough assessment to get to the bottom of your symptoms! One of my favorite mobility tools is the @tp_therapy MB vibe ball! Not only is it the perfect size to get in places like the pec/pec minor, but it also has several different vibration intensity settings. I use the vibration to assist with neuro-sensory input along with improving tissue glide. . Here I am performing part of my daily warm up routine. I start with mobilizing much front arm chain for 1-2 minutes. Immediately following I fire up the back arm chain to balance ...it out and activate my scapular stabilizers. . If you know me...timing and order matter when it comes to warming up. When ever we mobilize, touch or move we are communicating to the brain! What do you want to tell your brain? Here I’m telling my brain to down-regulate or relax the right from arm line, open up the chest and then activate the back arm line to assist in maintaining it! .
