New Dreams alert! This episode features the Founding Artistic Director of Dancing Earth, Rulan Tangen. We were so looking forward to presenting Dancing Earth’s newest production "Between Underground & Skyworld this Fall, which of course had to be postponed. In the meantime, Rulan joined us and shared insights about the history of the company, her interesting connection to the Presidio, and the making of Between Underground & Skyworld. Please enjoy and keep an eye out for performance dates next year. You can visit www.DancingEarth.org to learn more about Rulan and the company.
Big thanks to the crew at AAA Flag & Banner for installing our new lamp post banners in the Presidio of San Francisco!
This is a very special episode for us, featuring the Presidio Theatre's own Technical Director, Jeff Gregory. Jeff has been a long time staple in the San Francisco performing arts world and we feel privileged to have him leading our technical team. As someone with extensive history both on stage and behind the scenes, Jeff offers valuable insight into what makes a show and theatre come alive. Like Jeff, we're all dreaming about the day we can fill the theatre again!
The performing arts and all those who make them happen are a vital part of our communities and economies. To call attention to the struggles artists and organizations are facing during the COVID-19 pandemic, we joined performing arts centers around the globe last night as we lit the Presidio Theatre up with red lights as part of the #redalertrestart campaign. Nice shoutout for Joshua Brody's "Dreams from the Presidio Theatre" episode from The Marsh in Berkeley! Make sure to catch Joshua play his favorite Beatles songs on July 21 on "Wild Card Tuesdays" presented by the MarshStream.
New episode of "Dreams from the Presidio Theatre"! We were so happy to host Sonia Pina, the Program & Production Manager of the San Francisco Ethnic Dance Festival through World Arts West and Musical Director of Batala San Francisco. Sonia has a vast knowledge of art around the world and offers a refreshingly positive outlook about the future of art in San Francisco.
As an organization reliant on live events, the Presidio Theatre stands in solidarity with all those urging Congress to pass the RESTART Act, which will offer economic relief to the live events industry and the millions of people who have been out of work since March. We caught our Production Manager Patty Ann Farrell in a reflective moment as we lit the stage red in support of the campaign, 45 years backstage as a technician, stage manager, and lighting designer. This is the first time in all those years I find myself sitting alone, waiting. #RedAlertRESTART #WeMakeEvents #WeMakeEventsNorthAmerica #ExtendPUA #LightItInRed
