Today is Blind Americans Equality Day, also known for White Cane Safety Day. Since 1964, it's been observed on October 15th each year to recognize the contributions of Americans who are blind or have impaired vision. Disability is not inability. To celebrate National Disability Employment Awareness Month, we would like to give a big shout-out to a manufacturing company in Hayward, California for promoting #inclusion and #diversity in the workplace! A few weeks ago, we took a tour to the company and connected with the HR Manager and Warehouse Manager. During the tour, we got a good sense of their production environment and various roles available throughout the warehouse. We also learned about their efforts in foster...ing an inclusive workplace, including providing job carving and workplace accommodations to workers who need extra support. Join us in honoring our brave veterans on this special day On December 16th, 2016, President Obama signed the Jeff Miller and Richard Blumenthal Veterans Health Improvement Act into law. Since then, the American Veterans Disabled for Life awareness Day has been observed every year on October 5th to recognize men and women who return from war with life-altering injuries. Florida philanthropist Lois Pope was the primary advocate for the bill. She said, "Our wounded warriors ...have come home from battle missing arms and legs, blind and burned, and permanently traumatized both physically and emotionally. They left the war but the war will never leave them. Now we have an opportunity each year to recognize their courage, sacrifice and fortitude". No. BEST CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE: A customer at a bagel shop I worked at while in college used to buy extra bagels and coffee for any homeless people who happened to be nearby. WORST CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE: A man used to come in to the restaurant where I worked everyday and make me recite all of the soups of the day (there were usually about 6 of them) and all the ingredients in them, even though he could have just read the menu. MOST EMBARRASSING WORK MOMENT: I cleaned the coffee machines with the wrong soap and the next morning the crew brewed up 6 pots of coffee colored suds. BEST ADVICE ABOUT WORK I'VE EVER GOTTEN: Never feel ashamed or compare yourself to others, always be proud of the unique experiences you bring to the table. See more
