!! Kirsten is a third year DPT student at Mount Saint Mary's University. She is originally from the Portland, OR area, and graduated from Occidental College with a major in kinesiology and a minor in psychology. She is excited to learn everything there is to know about neurologic PT and help patients get back to the things they love. When she is not in the clinic, she enjoys rock climbing, hiking, and camping. Another day, another student spotlight!! We wanted to give a warm welcome to another new student at Precision, Shivani! Shivani is in her final year of physical therapy school at MSMU. She obtained her BS in biopsychology at UCSB in 2014. During PT school, Shivani has been an active student member of CPTA and CASSIG and is a co-founder of the Student Outreach Committee at the MSMU DPT focused on promoting extracurricular student involvement in the field of physical therapy. She realized her passion for physical therapy and helping patients in their recovery journey after working as a PT aide. Shivani is excited to complete her terminal 12 week clinical rotation at Precision.

August is SMA Awareness month! SMA is a genetic disorder that affects motor neurons, specifically SM1. Individuals w/SMA cant gnerate enough SMN protein because the SMN1 is deleted or mutated. SMN protein is key for muscle development and movement. Good afternoon Precision family!! We wanted to introduce you to our newest student, Lindsay! Lindsay obtained her B.S. in Human Biology at UC San Diego and is now finishing her final year in the DPT program at Mount Saint Mary’s University. After watching another friend study for their own DPT program, Lindsay developed an interest into what PT is and began to gain a better understanding of how PTs help people to move and return a lot of the activities that they love through volunteer and observation hours during her undergrad. Lindsay is excited to continue growing and learning how to better care for others during her rotation here at Precision Rehab.

In this video we wanted to highlight the effectiveness and importance of occupational therapy as it pertains to our everyday lifestyle. This patient in particular has had a spinal cord injuryone that hinders their ability to complete certain fine motor tasks such as putting on their shoes. In the video, we have shown this same patient attempt to put on their own shoe free of assistance. The Shoe itself is called the Nike Fly Ease which has a favorable & ergonomic designhelping our patient to complete this task! & As you can see by the end of the clip, they have completed putting on their shoe! A job well done!!
