Power of One Foundation 20.02.2022

Today I was awarded a Key to the City of Santa Ana for my efforts during the pandemic by Mayor Sarmiento and the City of Santa Ana. Congratulations to all the ...other recipients of this prestigious award. It’s an honor to stand along side you as we share this moment in history. I am overjoyed and humbled by this prestigious award. If you would’ve told me when I was a kid playing street football on Townsend St. in Santa Ana that I would one day be a part of a community and city that would go through one of the toughest times in our human existence and join together to spread love to our fellow brother and sister in need on a mass level, I would have said that you’re crazy. All I wanted at that time was to be a star on TV, playing football. You truly never know God’s plans for your life. When I look back at my journey that led up to this moment, my grandmother’s words always stand out in my heart: If you see a problem don’t look at it!! Fix it!! You are no better than no one else in the world. It’s your duty to be the best person you can be; you are a leader, not a follower. In order for you to understand today and what it meant to me, you must under my past. After my football dreams collapsed due to an injury, I focused on my other passions. I always wanted to be an actor and recording artist. I knew that that was where life was going to lead me. I had talent. I had connections. I had an audience. I was on tv everyday - Days of Our Lives, Nike, Ford, Taco Bell, ESPN, Fox Sports West and others. I was a part of big Hollywood productions. I was told I was gonna be a star. Yet something big was missing. I grew up taking care of the physically and mentally challenged. My family has owned & operated a group home business in Santa Ana my whole life. I was running my own home at an early age, taking care of ten consumers who would become my brothers. When I started my record label on 4th and Main in Downtown Santa Ana, where I was running my record label, CD duplication company and 3 radio stations ( R&B/Hip-Hop, Gospel and Spanish), people started coming in asking for food. I ran this label with my mom, grandmother, and uncle Wizzy (may he Rest In Peace). People kept coming by and asking for food. My mom came to me one day and said Andre, this is a sign. I was like, Mom, I am an artist. What do I know about feeding people? She said, A lot. You grew up feeding people and taking care of people. I was taken aback. She was right. I said, Okay, let’s do it. She ran with it. We started serving food at a small community center. This was when we knew there was a great need. I fell in love with being there for my brothers and sisters in this city. We have serviced all parts of Santa Ana for over 16 years. We have help over 10 million individuals to date as a family. When the pandemic hit I knew in my soul this was what I had been called to do, why for so many years I had been standing for those who have always needed extra love & care. We would go on to service 3 million individuals in one year!! This would not have been made possible without community coming together to be on the right side of history. I would like to thank Mayor Sarmiento for all his support! There where many days he was out there at the food distributions putting boxes of food in the cars, talking to community members, letting them know that Santa Ana cares. I am humbled that his heart would see our efforts and bestow this great honor not easily obtained. It is a symbol of the of pride for an amazing city. I am eternally thankful to the City of Santa Ana for their support and partnership. There are no words to describe how my heart feels. To all the employees that spoke to us many days, guided us and helped our foundation be there for the community, you may never know the massive impact you made to the families we assisted, but we do. They let us know. I accept this great honor on behalf of my grandmother Juanita Stocker & my grandfather Otis Stocker who I lost to Covid in 2020 who couldn’t be here to witness this amazing achievement. Grandpa, look I did it!!!!! Thank you for the man you made me!!! I pray you are proud of me from Heaven!! My mom Brenda Hall. My biggest cheerleader. The one that always tells me to not give up. You can do this son, you got this. You were made to do great things. I got your back. I’ll stand with you through hell or high water. Her love has carried me through. Shawnee Witt, the best partner I could ever ask for in life. She calls me crazy but in the same breath says I’m down. All the sleepless days and nights she took the ride with me to we’ve our communities during the pandemic. Always telling me You’re amazing. You are meant to do this. The people need you. As long as you are here for the people, we will be here with you.Her heart is priceless. Words can’t describe who she is as a person. Her love for humanity and her willingness to go above and beyond herself to ensure that someone else has what they need is an extraordinary quality I am honored to witness. Every community member & volunteer that helped me pack boxes, showed up at 5am to offload trucks by hand and set everything up. Then stayed and passed out all the food to their brothers and sisters with a loving heart, risking your own lives. All the days we had to clean up so much trash it took two to three hours. You are heroes and we thank you. All the kids in the community that at an early age had the heart to be there for the less fortunate, forever setting them on a journey that would shape their future, teaching me the lesson: It’s never to late to care and you can make an impact at any age. All the corporations that saw our mission and stepped up to the plate and showed they cared. They aligned with our mission and gave financially and in-kind. Those continuing to build with us, we are incredibly grateful for you. Special thank you to Sara Jaime. My spiritual sister. She has stood by me through thick and thin. She has driven trucks, forklifts and electric pallets-jacks. Packed food bags ‘til her hands went numb. Spent so many sleepless days and nights with me supporting my dream. She and her family have given so much to me. They believe in me unconditionally. Thank you all so much for all your love. Special thank you Omar de la Torre and his family. They were my rock in 2020. If it had not been for them, there is no way we could have done so many distributions and maintained our warehouse. Omar became a brother to me. His leadership and love for community is beyond this world. Not only that, but also having your two amazing sons helping constantly as well. Thank you Carlos & Hector. I have never seen someone so well respected by his peers & family. You are always happy and full of love. I am forever grateful to have you in my life Omar. You are a blessing to me. Thank you so so much poppa!!!! Special thank you to Ana Bautista for always being there for me and the foundation. You would be at every distribution setting up before everyone else and the last one to leave. Always there when I needed someone to depend on. It has been an honor to see you grow into your own. Thank you for your love of community. Your heart shows in your actions. Special thank you to Jessica Saldivar of Jessica’s Pastry Heaven. You fed everyone week after week. When tragedy struck your home you still were there for everyone else. You are an angel in every sense of the word. I am deeply sorry for your loss of four family members. You are one of the strongest people I know. Special thank you to the Familia Fuentes. Your whole family served tirelessly alongside us. Thank you for your energy, joy, and hearts for the community. Thank you for all the days working in the warehouse, packing food, driving trucks, and being there whenever I needed help. Special thank you to Berna Marquez for your partnership and support. A true leader in the community. She ran a distribution on the west side of Santa Ana weekly ensuring people within her community were supported. You are a blessing to me and the foundation and we look forward to growing with you. Special thank you to Congressman Lou Correa and his team. The congressman stood with us on the frontlines week after week supporting and helping community members. His words of wisdom always ring in my ears, helping me grow constantly. Thank you for all you do for us in Washington. Tony, you have helped at our events so much & continue to advocate for us. Special thank you to Gabbie Lemus who is a true community leader. She ran weekly distributions for the foundation. When ever I needed something Gabbie was always there going above and beyond for the community. It has been a true honor to serve with you on the frontlines. You have been a blessing in my life. Senator Umberg & your team, thank you for believing in us, championing us, & selecting us as 2020 Nonprofit of the Year. Richard, you put countless hours in helping at our events & constantly advocate for us. Ana, you have and continue to advise and support us. Thank you. A special thank you to Alfonso Calderon. This brother stepped into my life and was an angel. He saw my heart and went into action. His love for Santa Ana has no words. He was the catalyst to our positive impact during the pandemic. God sends people your way for a season. They are there to lift you up and encourage you when your journey gets a little too much for you to bear. They let you know that you are okay & that God sees you. Keep free falling; hold your faith. Special thank you to Ruben Smith. This man is the salt of the earth. He took me under his wing and guided me on a path that I could never repay him for in this lifetime. He saw my heart aligned with me and became a force of good on my journey, opening doors and creating relationships that would change my journey forever. Thank you for all you have done for me and my foundation. Special thank you to Angels Baseball and their financial contribution. It was our first big donation at the beginning of the pandemic that allowed us to spread our wings and set off a chain of events that would change my life forever. Your heart and love for community showed in a huge way. Special thank you to Victor Valladares for his support and being the conduit to make Angels Donation happen. Sharing your knowledge and standing on the frontlines with our foundation. A special thank you to all the other incredible sponsors who have supported us, especially our anonymous angel donor who made serving the quantity of families that we did possible. A special thank you to all the forklift companies, truck companies & drivers, and other businesses that supported our large-scale logistics. A special thank you to Northgate Markets. They saw our need and gave us what we needed to be there for our community. That one act of kindness set forth a stream of events that will forever change the history of Santa Ana. A special thank you to the Santa Ana Police department. Chief Paulson and Sgt Shin, stepping up to help with traffic & overall event coordination and standing behind our mission meant so much. They went above and beyond to ensure our food distribution events went smoothly. A special thank you to Mainplace Mall. When families’ need for food assistance was skyrocketing due to unemployment early in 2020 and we needed a location to grow, Jonathan at MainPlace said Here, do your distributions here. What do you need? We will help you. And they did and went above and beyond. Thank you to Jonathan, Cory, Ashley & your whole team. You guys are rockstars. Special thank you to Santa Ana College. They saw our mission and stepped right in and said Here is our campus, staff, & students ready to help. How can we make a difference for our students who are in need? The answer: We did weekly distributions and fulfilled that need. One of our biggest distributions was at the college. Special thank you to Waste Management. I don’t know what we would have done with all the trash week after week had it not been for them giving us dumpster after dumpster to ensure we could stay within health code. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you!! Special thank you to Magnolia Science Academy and Steven Keskinturk. There are no words to describe how this charter school in the heart of Santa Ana stepped up in a major way. The principle Steven Keskinturk was just coming into his first year there and the pandemic hits. I told him my plans for how to meet the community’s needs and he went above and beyond. Now mind you our foundation had been doing monthly distributions at Magnolia Science Academy for over five years prior to asking for weekly distributions, but Mr. K had very little history either us as he was new. Nevertheless he embraced my visions fully. He stepped right in and spent sleepless days and nights with us as we stood on the frontlines for our brothers and sisters in Santa Ana. He offered us the entire school to be our warehouse and distribution space for biweekly events! MSASA is a big part of our serving 3 million individuals in Orange County. You are a beacon in our city. Special thank you to Calvary Chapel/KWave, Lance Emma, & Mark Shaffer. They provided a home for our food distributions at a critical moment. We had to shift locations as the mall re-opened and they took us in with open arms, providing us with everything we needed. Their support has been unconditional. Our toy drives have the success they do because of their partnership with us. They simply aligned with our heart and vision and it was all action after that. Lance is a man of little words, all action. Special thank you to the OC Food Bank, Mark Lowry, Judy Chacon and Kristin Kvesic. They believed in me and the foundation in ways that are beyond words. All the days I spent talking to them working to be a better foundation for our community. All the mentorship they gave me. The trust they bestowed upon me during the pandemic is humbling. Together we have worked together for over 16 years to assist my brothers and sisters in Santa Ana. I am forever grateful for every moment spent with you. It has forever changed my life. I love you all dearly. In closing. I was led to do all I have done by God. I wouldn’t change a thing. Yes. It was hard. Some days I didn’t know why I was doing what I was doing. I sacrificed so much. Yet so little. For all of those called to do something that you may not understand, go with it. It will be the greatest journey you can ever take in life. My strength comes from the small moments. Seeing my brothers and sisters thankful that someone cares, then turning around and giving what was given to them back to another brother and sister. This is what life is made of. I am so proud to be from Santa Ana. We faced a pandemic head on, stood together hand in hand, and showed the world who we are in a time of crisis. We are unconditional love.
