The Poway Rodeo was saddened to learn a long-time member of the Poway Rodeo Committee, Eletha Norling, perished in a house fire early yesterday morning. Eletha was a prolific volunteer and a significant philanthropist to the City of Poway. A member of not only the Rodeo Committee since 1999, Norling could be relied on to volunteer and lead others in support of the community wherever and whenever possible. It is a shock to everyone on the Rodeo Committee to lose Eletha so s...uddenly and so sadly, said Sandy Childers, a Poway Rodeo Committee member. Eletha would always help with the behind-the-scenes work that was so important to the success of the Rodeo. She would recruit the help of volunteers as well as the participation of vendors and local businesses. She organized appreciation efforts for volunteers and cared for those volunteers while they worked the Rodeo. Eletha had a huge heart and loved to help wherever she was needed, no matter whether it was visible to the public or not, Childers added. She just wanted to be of service, and she certainly was in so many ways. Everyone who knew Eletha would say she was kind, thoughtful, hardworking, and cared deeply for the City of Poway and the people in it, said Joe Stupar, Poway Rodeo Committee Chair. She would sign up for any role that needed filling, any errand that needed running, any position that required her to recruit others to help. She was not just a reliable worker but a valuable part of this community. We will miss her deeply. Eletha also participated with and contributed to the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) and the Poway Historical Society. Our condolences go out to her family.

As we leave 2020 and move into 2021, we wish everyone a safe and happy new year. 2020 brought many challenges for families and businesses and we continue to pray for a year filled with the promises of a brighter future.
