NEW REPORT from the POP Research Team - visit the link in our bio to read Profit vs. Justice: Why PepsiCo’s Pouring Rights Violate UC Berkeley’s Campus Values. The ASUC Department of Unsustainable Partnerships aims to investigate UC Berkeley’s partnerships with companies and organizations that are detrimental to the health of the campus community and larger society, and to advocate for the university’s disaffiliation from these groups. The primary partnership this report... will analyze is between PepsiCo and UC Berkeley. The report is divided into four separate sectionsEnvironmental Sustainability, Food Insecurity, PepsiCo and Politics, and Public Healthto demonstrate the negative externalities PepsiCo produces and why UC Berkeley must end its Pouring Rights contract to uphold its own values, values students and faculty must also uphold. Please feel free to send us an email with any questions or comments at [email protected]. #PourOutPepsi #EnvironmentalJustice #FoodSovereignty #FoodJustice #Berkeley #UCBerkeley #asuc #PouringRights

This week, our member spotlight features Ashley Soliman (she/her), a member of our research committee! Ashley is a junior studying EEP and Legal Studies, and is originally from Saugus, CA. What Ashley likes most about activism and POP: I think young people are realizing more and more just how much power we have collectively to be agents of change. That is my favorite part about environmental and social activism on college campuses l! We are working hard to make the future br...ighter and it gives me so much hope. Ashley has two dogs, Toby and Lily: As much as I complain about how dependent they are on me, I am equally dependent on them and love them so much!! Ashley is part of our research committee, which works to investigate and gather resources on PepsiCo and food sovereignty that form the foundation of our campaign. Stay tuned for more member spotlights! #PourOutPepsi #EnvironmentalJustice #FoodJustice #FoodSovereignty #UCBerkeley #asuc #environment
This week, our member spotlight features Natalie Gaffney (she/her), a member of our environmental justice committee! In her free time, Natalie enjoys thrifting, reading, going for walks, and finding new music to listen to. Her favorite fruits are mangos and apples, and she has an English Bull Terrier named Willie. In the future, she hopes to study abroad in Japan! What Natalie... enjoys about activism: I am welcomed into a community of like-minded individuals who also care about our environment and work together to uplift people of all identities. The intersectionality of this work is what makes it so powerful and necessary. Also, within this community of activists, I am also able to challenge myself to be better and learn more about what I can do to have a smaller footprint. Natalie is a member of our EJ committee. New to our campaign and curious about our cause? Read about Pouring Rights, an agreement that forms the basis of UC Berkeley’s contract with PepsiCo. To end PepsiCo’s monopoly on campus and their limitations on student choice, we are calling on the university to #pouroutpepsi
The Pour Out Pepsi team recognizes that we have previously failed to make racial health inequities in the food system a priority in our campaign over issues like plastic waste and sustainability. With this in mind, our team has developed a list of core campaign values to guide our actions and redirect our focus to the racial injustices that have remained a fundamental problem in the food system.
Take our 5 min survey! Link in bio. What’s your vision for UC Berkeley’s food system? Here’s your chance to voice your preferred alternatives for the Pepsico contract. Your responses are essential for demonstrating a desire for greater student choice on campus.
We’re gearing up for our TownHall tomorrow! We look forward to collaborating with you all on shaping UC Berkeley to be equitable, healthy, and sustainable by ending our contract with PepsiCo. Join us and spread the word! Here is our FB event page: https://www.facebook.com/events/145611936880712/?ti=ia #pouroutpepsi #earthday
