#KnowYourZoneMendo [edited to add Spanish translation at the bottom of this post] In the last decade or two we've seen so many natural disasters and emergencie...s that we've almost come to expect them. During that time we've been trying our best to find the best emergency alert system to keep all residents and visitors of Mendocino County informed and safe, before, during and after an emergency. This isn't always easy since we're a rural county and we don't always have the staff, equipment and technology available that other larger, more urban areas have. Over the last decade or so, you've seen us try various systems, and with your help we've been continuously learning which systems work better than others. Because we know all the different types of notifications and how you receive them can get overwhelming, we're happy to announce we're launching a brand new website on May 26, 2021, that is totally dedicated to emergency information within Mendocino County. On May 26, 2021 at 12 PM (noon) we'll be launching the website and sending out a Wireless Emergency Alert (WEA). For those who don't remember how a WEA works, it will send the message only to residents and visitors who are in Mendocino County with cell phones at the time the alert is sent. This message will have a link directing you to the new website. (The link won't be made public until May 26, 2021.) Within that website, you'll find a map of Mendocino County broken into Zones. YES! Instead of changing zones names with each emergency, addresses will remain in a constant, unchanged zone number. You can keep your zone number handy on your phone, on your fridge, or just refer to the Mendocino County Zone Map as often as you need to. We hope this makes our messaging clearer in the future and allows you to make safety decisions faster than before. One last thing for now: Is your go-bag ready?
