Recently Fallen: Police Officer Mitchell Penton Dallas (TX) Police Department End of Watch: February 13, 2021... Police Officer Mitchell Penton was struck and killed by an intoxicated driver who was traveling at a high rate of speed as Officer Penton was directing traffic from a previous vehicle crash. Officer Penton was transported to the hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. Officer Penton is the 10th law enforcement officer to be killed in a traffic-related incident this year and the second officer fatality from the state of Texas in 2021. This is to remind us all that "WE RIDE FOR THOSE WHO DIED." Sergeant Gordon Best was responding to a shots fired called when he lost control of his patrol vehicle and collided with a utility pole. Sergeant Best is the first officer to be killed in a traffic-related incident this year and the first officer fatality from the state of South Carolina in 2021. Recently Fallen: Police Officer Jay Hughes Kalispel Tribal Police Department End of Watch: January 6, 2021... Police Officer Jay Hughes suffered a heart attack on January 4, 2021, after he and other officers responded to an altercation at a casino. Officer Hughes was transported to the hospital and died two days later. Officer Hughes is the first officer fatality from a Tribal agency in 2021.
