(Plus I think we got a few extra scoops bc she was just so darn cute. ) .... I’m cherishing these lunch/shopping dates right now because I know she’ll be in school full time in a year and half, and these spontaneous weekday strolls down Santana Row will (mostly) be a thing of the past. . I also totally get now why my mom used to let me take occasional relax-a-days in middle school and high school, when we’d walk around Valley Fair, grab lunch, and spend time reconnecting. We had a special spot where we always parked (that little alley next to Macy’s), special restaurants where we always ate (Sushi Boat or Grain D’Or), and special stores where we always stopped to chat with clerks who had become friends just as my daughter and I do today. I always saw those days with my mom as a special treat for *me* (I mean, I was the one who was skipping school!), but now I understand that they were just as much a special treat for *her.* .
