As we approach the end of the year the weather is getting cooler, and we need to adjust accordingly. Here are a few things you can do to stay prepared: Dress warm: Also, dress to stay dry. Moisture wicking clothing is a better alternative to cotton clothing.... Layer up: Dressing in layers will keep you warm at the beginning of your workout, and allow you to adjust as you warm up as you get into the main portion of your workout. Remove layers as you heat up. Dynamic warm up: stretching and loosening up are important to include in your warmup (especially with the colder weather). Adding in activities/exercises that warm up the entire body such as jumping jacks, bodyweight squats, and pushups are a great way to get your body warmed up and ready. Choose movements that closely mimic the work you're about to do. Drink water: As the weather gets colder that means the air becomes drier. Staying hydrated will protect your skin from becoming dry and cracking. Moisturizer is also a good supplement to staying hydrated. Protect your extremities: Wear a headband, gloves and even a scarf to protect your face, ears, nose, hands and fingers. When it gets cold, blood is shunted to the core, leaving less blood available to the extremities... keep them warm and adjust as you heat up. Fall in love with this delicious and authentic Mexican Tortilla Soup (Plant-Based) from @karaelise Nutritional facts (per serving): Calories 161 Iron 0mg... Calcium 97mg Vitamin C 1mg Vitamin A 343IU Sodium 305mg Cholesterol 22mg Protein 3g Sugar 0g Fiber 1g Carbs 10g Fat 12g Ingredients: 7 whole Tomatoes 5 cups Water 3 cloves Garlic 1 tbsp Cilantro (more if desired) + extra for optional garnish 3 tbsps White Onion (roughly chopped) 3 cups Corn Tortilla Chips 1/2 cup Organic Vegetable Broth 3 tbsps Butter (Earth balance or Miyokos brand Vegan butter recommended ) 1/2 tsp Sea Salt (more or less to taste) 1 1/2 ozs Vegan Cheddar Cheese ("Vio Life", or "Miyokos" brand Vegan shredded cheddar recommended) 1/4 Avocado (Sliced) Optional vegan sour cream (1 tbsp/ bowl) for garnish. Directions: Score the tops of the tomatoes with a knife in the shape of an "X", and place in the pot, cover with water Add garlic cloves (whole), onion, and cilantro to the water. Cook vegetables on high heat in water until tomatoes are soft (approx 10 minutes) Once tomatoes are soft, remove from heat. Strain the water, saving 2 cups. You know... that place where you lose track of time or even forget what's going on around you because you're focused and present on the awesomeness right in front of you. Some get into their zone via sports. For others it's arts, music and entertainment. And, it could even be when doing passion projects or creating. If you haven't found what it is for you, no worries! Here’s a few tips to help you: Think back to when you were younger... What activities did you do that made you forget to look at the time? As an adult... What do you do that makes you forget to check your phone? And, are there any projects or activities that you haven't done yet, but keep saying you will? Go do those things! Give them a try and see what sparks that Flow State. You might find a new fun hobby or maybe even make some new friends who share similar interests.
