Normally the Point Loma Association would have had our annual fundraising dinner by now to raise funds for projects and ongoing efforts toward beautifying, informing, and connecting our community. But we all know that 2020 has been a year like no other. Thankfully, Point Loma Association has managed to continue moving forward, in spite of the pandemic: our volunteers have donated over 2200 hours cleaning up and maintaining 19 sites throughout Ocean Beach and Point Loma, lands...caped the new Fire Station 20, removed graffiti, painted electrical boxes, hosted an online community conversation with community and elected leaders, launched the #IHeartPL campaign with over 100 nominations of local people, places and businesses, and published a weekly newsletter to over 1500 subscribers. It is the persistence and positive attitude of our volunteers that give us hope in a challenging time. Point Loma Association also continues to raise funds for our signature Anchor Lights project along Rosecrans. This planned project represents the next step in the enhancement of historic Point Loma Village a place where commerce occurs, community is built and memories are made. Would you please consider making a donation to Point Loma Association? Please help us continue the work of beautifying, informing and connecting our community. A donation of any amount is appreciated, but please consider donating at the same level as last year. Here are the sponsorship levels from last year's Gala: $10,000 Great Pumpkin Sponsor $5,000 Monster Mash Sponsor $2,500 Trick or Treat Sponsor $1000 Table Sponsor $750 Invisible Ink Sponsor $500 Witches Brew Sponsor $200 Table Tent Sponsor $100 Dinner Ticket Sponsor Donations may be made online - https://www.pointloma.org/donate - or by mailing a check. Checks may be made out to Point Loma Association and sent to: PO Box 60212, San Diego, CA 92166-0212 Thank you in advance for considering to make a donation to the PLA! #PLA #PointLoma #PointLomaAssociation #Community

Mean Greeners - This Friday, October 30, we will meet at 9:00 a.m. at our Ed's Triangle work site. Ed's Triangle is a 1.3 acre triangular median on Nimitz near the entrance to I-8 and Sunset Cliffs Blvd. The median has large mature palm trees around the circumference. We usually park on the empty gravel south of the median. You may also park at the Dusty Rhodes Dog Park if you prefer (if you are on Nimitz coming from the PL village, turn left on West Point Loma and then make ...an immediate right turn into the dog park parking lot). We will be weeding, trimming and picking up trash in the area. Please bring your mask, gloves and favorite tools. You must wear a mask to participate, and please do not attend if you have any symptoms of illness. We will provide collection bags and will have some extra tools on hand for those who need them. The weather is turning cooler, so check the temperature before heading out on Friday morning. We hope to see you there! #PLA #PointLoma #MeanGreenTeam #CommunityCleanUp

What does the future hold for Shelter Island, private boat docks and amenities along La Playa Bayside Trail? The Port of San Diego just released their revised Port Master Plan and will accept public comment through November 17. The feedback our community delivered a year ago seems to be incorporated in the latest Revised Draft. That’s good news for protecting Shelter Island height and density limits and making positive improvements to the walking trail while keeping it casual.... The Port also withdrew their demand to demolish private piers along La Playa Anchorage. However, the Port’s Plan must be approved by the California Coastal Commission, and they could decide the piers have no place in the State’s Coastal Act. Last Friday, our Mean Green Team was busy cleaning up the intersection at Nimitz & West Point Loma Blvd. (the triangular public plots we call Pork Chops), weeding, pruning and picking up trash. Another job well done! And some of our volunteers donate extra time when they see an area that needs extra care. NTC Park is one of those areas, and Michele Reinemann is one of those volunteers. Although our PLA Team and the City’s Park & Rec. Department work constantly to tend the expansive plantings along the waterway, the job is never done. Beyond her labors with the MGT, Michele spent an additional 12+ hours over three days, working on her own to enhance the beauty. Thank you Michele! #PLA #MeanGreenTeam #PointLoma #Volunteers #Beautification

Mean Greeners - This Friday, October 23, we will meet at 9:00 a.m. at our Liberty Station Monument Row site, where the submariners' memorials are. There are two rows of memorials as well as eyebrow beds. We will pull weeds, trim plants, pick up trash, and sweep around the memorials. This area is near our rose garden, located in the large park that is adjacent to the water channel behind the white cannons. We will be working on the north-side row this Friday where the weeds ...have been growing since we've been concentrating on the other side for a while. The truck will be parked adjacent to the north row, so look for the truck when you arrive. We're trying to get both rows of monuments looking neat for our wreath laying on Friday, December 4. Please bring your mask, vest, gloves and favorite tools. We will have collection bags/bins as well as some tools to lend. As always, masks and social distancing will be required, and please stay home if you have any symptoms of illness. We hope to see you Friday! #PLA #MeanGreenTeam #PointLoma #CommunityCleanUp
