The YMCA of San Francisco has been and will continue to be here for families. With school districts announcing distancing learning for the fall, we will be offering morning, afternoon and full-day in-person academic and enrichment support at locations across Bay Area. More details will be coming soon. http://ymcasf.org/learning-hub Get ready now by setting up your account and updating your information in our new registration system. For questions, email [email protected].
Thank you SFGATE for sharing how the Y is giving kids a fun, safe, explorative summer in 2020 [YMCA of San Francisco] gives parents a few hours in the day to be something other than parents. Despite the past few months stuck cooped inside, doing what is reportedly a very unfair amount of homework, they look extremely happy to stare out into a canopy of cypress trees. When I poll the group of middle schoolers about the most fun thing about the pandemic so far, they go aroun...d the circle and repeat the same answer: this camp. SAVE THE DATE: July 4th at 7 p.m. PST for a documentary film broadcast by @nbcbayarea, No Time to Waste about @nps Park Ranger Betty Reid Soskin. The history that I have lived it was nowhere in site. Not one minute of it. The opportunity to insert the African American stories is what the park became to me. Betty Reid Soskin #blacklivesmatter #ymca #ymcasf
Join us for a LIVE campfire tonight at the @pointbonitaymca for our annual Sunset Social! Use: https://ymcasf.zoom.us/u/aeoNbzJad4 @ Marin Headlands
Point Bonita is fortunate to offer outdoor education programs in a national park. While the Bay Area continues to shelter-in-place, programs at our site aren't currently possible. Instead, you and your children can take advantage of the National Park Trust's "Grab and Go Outdoor Activities" to learn more about the world around us. https://www.parktrust.org//grab-and-go-outdoor-activities/
We thank Rethink Outside for their post today: "When people connect with #nature, we all benefit. There are 14 inspiring stories (and counting) in the Rethink Outside story bank. What's your #RethinkOutside story?"
Welcoming Point Bonita's newest resident - one of two fawns born on campus this week. (Only one fawn allowed us to get a photo and mama was not happy about the picture being taken!) They are both cute beyond words!
Proud to be a part of YMCA of San Francisco and our response to this crisis. #YMCASF https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=726469344760601#
Here's a fun way to support a great organization doing on-the-ground work. The YMCA of San Francisco is providing essential services across three Bay Area counties, including food pantries, childcare, and mental health services. We'll be tending our live-streamed campfire from 5-8PM on Friday, May 29th. Each ticket costs only $25 and supports the YSF's Sustainability Fund. Buy your ticket to our virtual event today! https://www.ymcasf.org/sunset-social
This year, the National Park Trust is turning "Kids to Parks Day" into "Parks to Kids Day"! Check out their website for great ways to make our national parks come alive in your homes this weekend. https://kidstoparks.parktrust.org/family-resources/
An early morning visitor - a gray fox - hunting rabbits for breakfast. Ten minutes later, a deer sauntered through the same spot. Nature never ceases to amaze if you take the time to look.
"At some time, often when we least expect it, we all have to face overwhelming challenges. When the unthinkable happens, the lighthouse is hope. Once we find it, we must cling to it with absolute determination. When we have hope, we discover powers within ourselves we may have never known- the power to make sacrifices, to endure, to heal, and to love. Once we choose hope, everything is possible." - Christopher Reeve Let our lighthouse be a reminder of all the hope and possibility in the world. YMCA of San Francisco
Happy to share a wonderful op-ed piece co-written by the YMCA of San Francisco's President and CEO, Chuck Collins, on behalf of the San Francisco Children & Nature cross-sector collaboration. https://baynature.org//the-worlds-most-powerful-classroom/
Meet Hyalophora cecropia, a visitor to Point Bonita a few weeks ago. The students in residence at the time (and our staff) marveled at the beauty of North America's largest moth. Learn more about the cecropia moth here: https://www.mnn.com//cecropia-moth-largest-moth-north-amer
