Neither Trudie Stapleton nor myself are city employees. The Carlsbad Pickleball Facebook page is not a city site, but rather a Carlsbad Pickleball Supporters page. Postings provide helpful information or notifications from the city. We are very fortunate and proud that after 8+ years of many hours spent in discussions with the city, that these beautiful courts were built. The hope is that more courts will come in the future, which is why it is so important that the city ...look upon pickleball players as respectful and cooperative. Today, the Parks and Recreation Department requested that I send out this notification: "This is a reminder to all players and spectators on the sidelines on the Poinsettia Park pickleball courts to wear masks now that pickleball is called out under the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) youth and adult sports guidance. Under the General Requirements for All Sports section of the CDPH it states that face coverings must be worn when not participating in the activity (e.g.,, on the sidelines) and face covering must we worn by observers at all times. The link is provided for everyone’s reference (Pickleball doubles is in the moderate contact category). As one of the administrators of this site as well as the Carlsbad Pickleball Support Group, here is the official correspondence from Parks and Recs regarding doubles play. Good news! As of March 3, 2021, doubles pickleball play is now allowed since we reached the threshold of an adjusted case rate equal to or less than 14 per 100,000. We removed the restrictions signage at the pickleball courts and also updated the city’s website. Thanks so much for getting the word out! ... New COVID-19 Guidance for Pickleball at Poinsettia Community Park. Carlsbad Pickleball Supporters Group has just been notified that due to the latest shutdown rules issued by the State related to "youth and adult sports guidance that governs many of the activities in our parks, new restrictions on pickleball play will become effective immediately. This is not the City’s choice, however, due to the current increase in the spread of the COVID-19 virus the city must comply with... the Governor’s new restrictions. With the new Guidance, doubles matches are prohibited and singles matches will be the only allowable play. Only two players at a time on the court. Currently, San Diego County is in the Purple Tier. The new guidelines will be in affect until the County reaches the Red Tier." At that time doubles play will be allowed. You can review the state’s new guidelines at: https://www.cdph.ca.gov//outdoor-indoor-recreational-sport We appreciate your patience and cooperation during the stages of the COVID-19 pandemic. The City’s No. 1 priority is to continue to create an environment that protects your safety and peace of mind.

Carlsbad Community Gym Re-Opening Rules To clarify the questions related to the requirement for wearing masks during all activities at Carlsbad indoor facilities, you can find the basis for this requirement at: https://www.cdph.ca.gov//Guidance-for-Face-Coverings_06-18.... The City of Carlsbad is required to abide by these guidelines in order to open our indoor facilities for use. They do not have the authority to ignore or change the California Department of Public Health requirements. Please familiarize yourself with the content of the guidelines. When the guidelines are changed at the State level, the City will most likely also change their requirements. Here’s the website link to the COVID-19 Protocol for Open Play in Carlsbad Community Centers. https://www.carlsbadca.gov/civicax/filebank/blobdload.aspx You do not have to be from the same family or household to reserve a court. MESSAGE FROM OUR CARLSBAD CITY MANAGER REGARDING FACE COVERINGS If you’re driving around town, I hope you see the new signs and banners we’ve installed. We all have different reasons for why we wear (or don’t wear) a face covering. But at the heart of it, I ask you to look at it from a different perspective. Whether it’s to protect yourself or loved ones, help keep local businesses open or to show respect for others, wearing a mask can communicate a lot without words. ... Whatever your reason is, know that your choice matters. Please mask up, do your part and help slow the spread. Wearing a mask is one of the best ways to demonstrate that you care in an important and visible way. Together, let’s #Care4Carlsbad. Thank you! Scott Chadwick City Manager
