Launching her consulting business, Vikita and her team are called upon to advise, troubleshoot and solve extremely ...complex HR issues in industries ranging from television, marketing firms, and wireless, to retail, hospitality, and property management. Vikita and her team have saved companies and clients millions of dollars in legal costs by structuring and implementing sound HR principles consistent with local, state and federal law. Vikita’s business acumen allows her to consult with key decision makers outside of what would traditionally be considered Human Resources. Vikita graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Mount Saint Mary’s College. Never leaving her faith behind, she has an associate degree in Biblical Studies from the International School of Ministry. Senate Bill 1383 by state Sen. Hannah-Beth Jackson (D-Santa Barbara) requires employers with five or more workers to offer 12 weeks of unpaid time off for family leave beginning Jan. 1. Currently, companies with 50 or more employees are required to provide 12 weeks of leave to care for a new child or a family member. The threshold for parental leave is lower, allowing 12 weeks of job-protected time off for workers at companies with 20 or more employees. Teachers and parents in California, you will need to be compliant with AB5 according to Governor Newsom. Under AB5 both teachers and parents could be subjected to enormous fines and penalties. City and County California Minimum Wage Increases The new SB 3 law increases the minimum wage to $15 per hour by Jan. 1, 2022, for employers with 26 or more employees. For employers with 25 or fewer employees the minimum wage will reach $15 per hour by Jan 2022. But what have cities and some counties done to complicate matters? On July 1, 2020 several cities and counties have their own minimum wages increasing. Check your local municipality to ensure you are compliant with the minimum wage in your area. Supreme Court Expands Religious School Exemption from Civil-Rights Laws The U.S. Supreme Court ruled today that religious school teachers could not pursue their claims of age and disability discrimination. The court found that employees such as teachers who hold important positions can’t sue their employers because of the First Amendment’s freedom of religion clauses.
