We are making progress in our fight against the virus. We have come a long way since the first COVID-19 cases showed up in our county. Back in February, Santa ...Clara County had as many as 25% of the nation’s COVID-19 cases. Today, we have 3% of California’s cases. Considering the size of our population, keeping our case count relatively low is a huge accomplishment, and much of the credit goes to all of you. By staying home as much as possible and adopting social distancing practices, you are protecting the community, especially people who are more likely to become severely ill if they get the virus. The actions we are taking now will help our county continue to avoid a potential return of COVID-19 cases, hospitalizations and deaths. Before moving to Phase 2, we must ensure that additional infrastructures are in place to handle a return of the virus. We know it’s been a long and hard several months for everyone. This pandemic is unlike anything we’ve ever seen and we’re still learning about its evolution daily. Thank you for continuing to social distance and stay home as much as possible. Because of the substantial progress our community has achieved in slowing the spread of COVID-19, our Health Officer Dr. Sara Cody has issued an updated Shelter...-in-Place order that will allow certain additional businesses and activities to resume. The new order goes into effect this Friday, May 22. The new order allows retailers to provide curbside pickup services and also allows certain additional outdoor activities, including car parades, outdoor museums, historical sites, and public gardens. We must all continue to stay home as much as possible, continue with to wear face coverings, and practice social distancing when in public. This is what has helped our region make progress to slow the spread of COVID-19. Read the new order: https://www.sccgov.org//Pages/order-health-officer-05-18-2
