Lately, we've received a number of reports about mountain lions and "baby" mountain lions near a popular Pleasanton trail, and we want to reassure you these creatures are NOT mountain lions. They are . We know it can be difficult to tell the difference, but a bobcat has a short tail and is smaller than a mountain lion. Generally, bobcats do NOT pose a threat to humans and prey on animals like rats and squirrels. If you spot a bobcat that is sick, injured or approaching people, then we can help! Call us at (925) 931-5100.

We are excited to welcome Officer Nate Cabral to Pleasanton Police Department. During a private swearing-in ceremony held earlier today, Officer Cabral was pinned by his father who is an officer with neighboring agency, Livermore Police Department. Officer Nate Cabral is a member of the 169th Academy class from the Alameda County Sheriff's Office police academy. Prior to attending the academy, he worked as a cadet for the Livermore Police Department since 2018. He earned an associate degree in criminal justice from San Joaquin Delta College, where he also played for the football team. Congratulations and welcome to Pleasanton!

A couple days ago, Pleasanton PD and Livermore-Pleasanton Fire Department responded to a medical call. As captured in this video, Sergeant Eric Gora used sign language to help the medical staff communicate with the individual. We are happy to report the individual is doing well, and we are proud of our officers for quickly utilizing their skills and knowledge to serve our diverse community. credit: Team 2 and Sgt. Caught traveling at 67 mph in a 35 mph zone! Our traffic unit has seen several drivers speeding around town, and as much as we'd like to stop and chat, we don't want to spoil your day with a ticket. Please remember to follow the rules of the road and slow down, Pleasanton.

Don't be alarmed by these photos... A pair of furry friends were found wandering around Pleasanton by some good Samaritans, and they arrived at our station in a car that was covered in Halloween decorations. Not real bodies. Dispatcher Amber Wisgerhof and Animal Services Officer Frankie Ayers both used their resources to eventually reunite these sweet dogs with their rightful owners. Kudos to the good Samaritans for helping these lost dogs while spreading the spirit of Halloween! credit: Dispatcher Amber Wisgerhof

Yesterday morning, we found a stolen vehicle with bags of stolen mail from several neighboring cities. When the car stopped at a local Starbucks, our officers didn't hesitate to respond. As Sgt. ICYMI, Pleasanton: KRON 4 News met with Officer Evans to discuss our Homeless Outreach Team and the ongoing efforts to find appropriate long-term solutions for our unhoused community. Check out the video below.

Pleasanton Police Department 18.07.2020

We value your response to our previous post about the complexity of homelessness in Pleasanton and the ongoing efforts to help our unhoused population. For some, this can be an uncomfortable topic and as captured in this photo, it can also be concerning. When we receive a call for service about an unhoused individual, a patrol officer may be first to arrive at the location, while our Homeless Outreach Team is en route and proactively assessing the needs of the individual. O...ftentimes, it can result in contacting mental health service agencies or agencies that specifically assist our unhoused community. It is a coordinated response that has a higher rate of success when we work together. As we collaborate with service providers and our fellow City of Pleasanton staff in identifying resources and appropriate long-term solutions for our unhoused population, there are other ways our community can help. For more information, we recommend contacting CityServe of the Tri-Valley, which is familiar with the unique needs of our unhoused population. CityServe offers different volunteer opportunities and can connect interested members with other agencies that specialize in similar work. We appreciate your interest in getting involved. Thank you, Pleasanton! CityServe: http://ow.ly/LYSZ50BZckG

Homelessness is a complex issue. It takes time to build relationships with our unhoused population, particularly when interacting with individuals living with severe mental illness. We have made significant strides in helping our unhoused population find appropriate housing and mental health resources. Since 2017, Pleasanton’s unhoused population increased and with that, so did calls for service. In response, the City of Pleasanton authorized our department to establish the H...omeless Outreach Team. This team includes two full-time officers dedicated to working closely with our unhoused. Since the inception of this program, our Homeless Outreach Team has worked in collaboration with the City of Pleasanton staff and outside service providers. Together, they helped approximately 20 individuals find permanent or temporary lodging. Recently, our homeless liaison officers identified an encampment beneath a Pleasanton overpass, which was an area of concern because human waste, trash, and hazardous chemicals threatened a nearby waterway. The Homeless Outreach Team partnered with service providers to relocate the occupants and find them alternate housing solutions. Due to environmental concerns, the City of Pleasanton's Environmental Services, Code Enforcement, and the Homeless Outreach Team worked together in removing the remaining structures, trash, and debris. Our Homeless Outreach Team's primary function is not enforcement. They are advocates for our unhoused and for the expansion of service agencies in our community. Alongside our community partners, they are here to help find appropriate long-term solutions for our unhoused population.

Making a stop at a gas station ... Last week, our officers swiftly responded after noticing stolen vehicles on our streets. During one such high-risk traffic stop, they recovered a knife with brass knuckles and a jar full of marijuana. We're looking out 24/7, Pleasanton. credit: Team 1 and Sgt. Shuffield
