Overview: For the January Section Meeting, we are doing something a little different. We will have a dinner meeting at Bakersfield College, where we'll learn about the new Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Automation. In addition, we will have a tour of the Electronics and Automation labs at Bakersfield College. As you may know, BC was one of 15 community colleges that were approved to offer a Bachelor's degree, which will begin in fall 2016. Professor and Student Section Advisor, Sean Caras, will explain the focus of the degree and the courses that will be a part of it. Central California Section ISA was instrumental in making this happen, and we will continue to support this unique opportunity for future automation professionals. With a variety of advanced-level automation coursework, in addition to advanced manufacturing topics and management-level coursework, Bakersfield College will train a well-rounded "technologist" that will have a number of career options available to him/her. We hope you will join us as we discuss how the degree program was developed, and how the coursework follows the Automation Competency Model. You will hear about the plans for additional equipment purchases and a new automation lab that will support the upper-division (junior and senior year) coursework. We will conclude with a tour of our well-equipped electronics and automation labs. Bio: Sean Caras is a professor in the Bakersfield College Engineering and Industrial Technology Department.
