Nearly 25 years ago, a few community members had the idea to celebrate and promote the area around the iconic Pasadena Playhouse. They saw an opportunity to make it into an even more special place of culture, commerce, and community and called it the Playhouse District. Since those early days, we have seen the area transform, drawing more people and businesses to call our neighborhood home. Our next chapter begins today as we transition from Playhouse District to Playhouse Vi...llage - your community in the heart of Pasadena. Welcome to Playhouse Village!

This ornate fountain almost didn’t come into existence. Original to the Playhouse designs, disagreements on where to place the fountain and funding had prevented the initial installation. However, with the support and fundraising efforts of actors from the first year of shows at the Playhouse, the fountain was installed a year after the theater’s opening. The fountain was designed by famous Pasadena tile designer and maker, Ernest Batchelder, who also designed the fireplace i...nside the Playhouse Library.
