The tactile system plays a big role in giving us information about things like touch, temperature, pressure, pain, and textures. Children explore and learn their environment through touch but not all children like all textures. Don’t worry. That is all perfectly normal! Check out this article and handout for fun ways to facilitate tactile play at home and learn more about the tactile system: http://play2growpediatrictherapy.com/tactile-play/
Now that you know more about the tactile system, let’s make our own sensory bin! This handout is packed full of fun fall themed ideas that you can do at home. The best part? As a parent, taking care of yourself shouldn’t be considered a luxury but an essential part of your day. Especially during these difficult times, you should be on the top of your priority list. We know that may sound difficult right now amongst all that is going on, so we are here to offer some self-care tips just for you! If you give some time to yourself, then you will be able to ask more of yourself, and in turn, have more to give to others. Self-care doesn’t have to be ...time-consuming, sometimes all you need is a moment. And remember parents, it is totally okay to ask for help! With that said, the Play2Grow team is here to support you. https://childmind.org//self-care-in-the-time-of-coronavi/
The proprioceptive systems works with the vestibular system to help us coordinate our body and limbs as we move in space, and together gives us a sense body awareness. Body awareness is the here I am! marker we rely on to help us to determine the position of our body parts, their relation to each other, and their relation to other people and objects in the environment. But did you know the proprioceptive system can also assist the body in helping it to calm down. That’s ri...ght! Proprioceptive input can help soothe, calm, and regulate the other sensations that may be overloading the nervous system. Does your child appear clumsy? Does your child’s play seem to be more rough and tumble? Does your child have trouble paying attention? Cant sleep or has too much energy? The proprioceptive system does all this and more! Check out this handout for fun activities and ideas to help calm your child’s body and allow him/her to calm and refocus. http://play2growpediatrictherapy.com/the-proprioceptive-sy/
