Planet Roller Skate Shop 11.11.2020

Look Ma! We made the front page news! We are truly humbled by how enthusiastic and courteous each one of you were as you patiently waited hours in line for your turn to be served. We saw so many dreams come true yesterday, so many smiling eyes and a few tears of joy. We feel like everyone came for skates but somehow also left with four to ten new skate friends! How radical is that!? We have missed you all so much and it was great to see your faces one last time before we have to close our doors again Until next time skate fam! #longbeach #4thstreetlb #retrorow #pigeonsrollerskateshop #community #rollerskates #skatenews

It doesn’t have to be boots OR boards, it could be boots AND boards

Sundays have a reputation for being fundays, I wonder if that’s true? Who are you having fun with today? Did you bring your wheels? Got ya sunscreen on?

After personal and team reflection we have decided to part ways with Indy Jamma Jones and Planet Roller Skate. The online skate shop and the physical skate shop in Long Beach California will now be called Pigeon Skates, effective immediately. Both shops are currently closed but will be reopening soon.

#Blackouttuesday Black Lives Matter. We stand in solidarity with the black community

To the black skate community, skaters of color and the entire skate community. On behalf of Planet Roller Skate I want to apologize for the hurt caused by our 2 employees. Their actions in no way reflect the ideals, morals or mission of the other employees, correspondents or the organization itself. At Planet Roller Skate our mission is to keep you safe, educated and empowered. The employees, Amy West (Indy Jamma Jones) and Jennifer C (original forum moderator), have been put... on temporary leave from Planet Roller Skate and their return is conditional upon their demonstration of an alignment with our mission, values and goals. As for the rest of us at Planet Roller Skate, we will also be going through our own sensitivity training, which will involve a process group that will allow our diverse staff to safely discuss and reflect on how this has personally impacted them. We are going to confront how we as an organization inherently participate in systemic inequalities in our society. We will continue to strive for a diverse work environment by hiring more underrepresented skaters and forum moderators who represent all aspects of the skate community, which will include multiple black skaters. We will also help amplify voices from marginalized communities through our videos and social media. There is so much I personally don’t know and reflecting on all this I found that I have so much more to grow myself. Learning is something I am motivated to do. What has happened in the last few days on the Planet Roller Skaters forum and in our country at large has forced us to recognize that we can no longer stay silent to the devastating social inequalities that exist for black communities. I understand that PRS as an organization is part of a larger structural system that perpetuates social inequalities. We, including myself and anyone who works for PRS, will strive to work toward ways to dismantle systemic racism in the skate industry and skate community through working with and learning from our allies. Because I am motivated for change, Planet Roller Skate will change. We will listen. Marginalized voices need to be heard. Pigeon -owner

I know the saying is you don’t know what you’ve got until it’s gone but we always knew. We know now. The value of the unwavering support and loyalty of our neighbors have shown us, world wide We miss you. We appreciate you. We look forward to helping you person to person someday very soon. Our days of a bustling busy skate shop full of skaters switching out their laces, getting fitted for their next ride, or just poppin’ in to see if we have any new goodies and say hello, are not over At this time we do not have a reopening date and are not doing curbside pick up for the safety of our staff and all customers we serve Thank you for understanding and supporting us through these wacky times. Try your best to be gentle with yourself and others. We’re all in this together

Look at all these smiling faces! While we can be cheek to cheek at the moment it’s nice to reflect back and be thankful for the times that we were and find joy in the fact we will again soon Stay sage and be well skaters! Much love from the Planet Roller Skate Team
