Today at about 8am, Placerville Police Dispatch received a call that a male pointed a gun and threatened another male in the rear parking lot at McDonald's on Broadway Drive. Officers arrived and were told that the male had jumped a fence and was last seen in the creek. The male was positively identified as Jorj Perry. This portion of the creek runs below the parking lot at the Hangtown Village Square and is unlit. PPD officers requested assistance from the El Dorado Count...y Sheriff's Department, who utilized a drone equipped with a camera to check the unlit portion of the creek. The drone operator located Perry, who was arrested without incident. The firearm is still outstanding, however, police towed his vehicle and are preparing a search warrant to see if the firearm is located inside. The investigation is ongoing and there is no risk to the public at this time. PPD would like to thank El Dorado County Sheriff's Office and the citizens on scene who provided information to help locate this suspect. Anyone with information is asked to call the Placerville Police Department at (530) 642-5280. #teamwork See more

Placerville, CA The Placerville Police Department is proud to announce a second place award in the nation for NNO for 2020. The efforts by all those involved in National Night Out 2020 were recognized by the National Association of Town Watch (NATW) when they awarded Placerville 2nd place in the nation for our category. NATW reviewed submissions from all over the county after the October 6, 2020 event. This year was the 37th annual NNO that involved over 16,000 communiti...es nationwide. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic the NNO planners had to think outside the box. Our kickoff event was located at the Bell Tower, which featured a live podcast hosted by Chaplain Al Soto, of Bayside Church, Matt Morecraft, of Bayside Church and Justin Nida. Eleven local restaurants signed up to participate and offered NNO meal deals. These restaurants included Amerikan Ichi, Amore Mio, Dickey’s Barbeque Pit, Paco’s Mexican Cuisine, Pizza Factory, Placerville Public House, Powell’s Steamer Co. & Pub, Sourdough & Co. Spanky’s Pizza, Teriyaki Junction and Tijuana Taqueria. A scrapbook with all the pictures from the parties and events leading up to NNO was completed and submitted to NATW for the award process. In a year that brought us many challenges as a nation, we are grateful for all the community members and businesses that donated to this great event in the city, said Chief of Police Joe Wren. NNO is the highlight of our community policing efforts each year and we are proud to work with the community to create an award winning event. A special thank you to everyone that was involved that made this special night occur. National Night Out is normally the first Tuesday in August every year, but this year it was pushed back to the first Tuesday in October. The police department encourages all neighborhoods to participate in future NNO events. There is always room for more neighborhood block parties and more volunteers! Planning for NNO 2021 will begin in March of this year. If you are interested in helping you can reach out to Commander Dan Maciel or Michelle Rand at (530) 642-5210. https://www.cityofplacerville.org///NNO%20Award%202020.pdf

The Placerville Police Department will hold a DUI/Driver’s License checkpoint on December 19, 2020 at an undisclosed location within the city of Placerville limits. While many of us have been staying at home during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Placerville Police Department is reminding everyone who does need to drive to do so while sober. The dangers of drinking and driving are very real, Commander Dan Maciel said. That includes drugs that affect your ability to drive. Pleas...e be responsible and think of your family and friends before considering driving when you are not in a position to do so safely. To protect you and your family, the Placerville Police Department will have additional officers on patrol from December 16, 2020 through the January 1, 2021 looking for suspected impaired drivers. The increased efforts to address impaired driving are part of a national enforcement campaign, Driver Sober or Get Pulled Over. Driving while impaired is illegal, whether it is alcohol, prescription drugs, over-the-counter medications or marijuana. If you plan on drinking or taking medications with a may cause drowsiness or other driving warning label, plan on staying home. If you see someone driving impaired, call 911. Funding for this program is provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. While you were sleeping On 12/16, in the early morning hours, a concerned citizen witnessed a vehicle driving on east bound highway 50. The citizen called 911 to report this possible DUI driver and then took this brief video. The vehicle was approaching the city of Placerville and officers were able to make contact with the driver. After contacting the driver the officer recognized signs of impairment. After performing sobriety tests it was determined the driver was impaired and was arrested. Broadway Dr. Camp Clean-Up This clean-up and collaboration with the City of Placerville Public Works, and local volunteer groups was spearheaded by Sgt. Andy Litzius. Thank you to all who volunteered their time to clean up the trash and hazardous needles. PPD temporarily blocked Broadway Dr. to traffic for the safety of all of the great volunteers that endured the hauling of the many bags of trash to the dump trucks standing by. This is the 2nd local clean-up that Sgt. Litzius has organized for the city. #PlacervilleStrong #CommunityOutreach #KeepingPlacervilleGreat #PartnersWithTheCommunity

To the Community of the City of Placerville, I have heard from several members of our community that there is uneasiness about what will happen after the election on Tuesday. I want to assure our community that your police department is here for you and we are prepared for any situation that may arise. We understand there is a lot of hate filled rhetoric disseminated on social media. We know because we read it too. Regardless of the outcome, we ask that everyone remembers... that there is no Us or Them. We are all Americans and our nation functions when people follow the rules and show respect towards one another. We will not tolerate acts of violence towards any member of this community. I know that 2020 has been challenging on us all. I watch as our police officers show up every day to help the community through these trying times. The reality is, each of our officers are living the same reality as all of you. I ask that our community stand with each other, put aside spiteful attacks, and treat each other with respect.
