McCoy has been doing yoga the last five years and enjoys the calmness and strength yoga brings to his life. McCoy is also a dance student at Corona Del Mar and is in his second year of studying a variety of dance from hip hop to ballet. The medial collateral ligament (MCL) is located on the inside of the knee and connects the thigh bone (femur) to one of the bones of the lower ...leg (tibia). This ligament can be stretched and/or torn when the knee undergoes stress that pushes the knee inward (valgus stress), which is more common in a number of sports including: hockey, football or soccer. Common symptoms include pain and swelling at the inside of the knee and a potential feeling of instability with certain movements. Rehab from this condition should focus on regaining mobility (flexion and extension) initially and then transition to strength and movement control exercises designed to protect the medial joint line. If you have experienced this injury, give these exercises a try. 1Heel Slide (Mobility) 2Active Extension (Quad Activation) - Acute knee injuries can impair one’s ability to activate their quadriceps muscles, so this exercise helps to regain that control. 3Straight Leg Raise 4Sidelying Hip Adduction - The adductor tendons cross the medial joint line and can help provide stability to the healing MCL. 5Banded Valgus Control - Motor control exercises like this one can help teach individuals how to avoid a knee valgus position and further injury to the MCL. 6Ball Hamstring Curls 7Step Down - In this exercise and the next, try to prevent any valgus or inward movement of the knee. The goal is to keep the knee directly over the foot. 8Single-Leg Squat
