Our next exhibition and gallery opening will be the Members' Juried Exhibition on April 10th and Salon Jane is rescheduled to open May 15th. In the meantime, please enjoy our online classes and workshops. Thank you!

We are pleased to feature CPA member photographer Wilton Wong. A reflection on one’s photographic journey brings up memories deeply buried in the past. For example, as I think about my first camera it really was in Elementary School when I became intrigued by the mini cameras that were sold all over San Francisco Chinatown. There was even film, though tiny, that went in the camera and recorded photographs. In the present day, we referred to the issue as Gear Acquisition Syndrome or G.A.S. During the 50’s, all I knew is that I really like the mini camera and ended with a small collection. https://photography.org/membphotog/wilton-wong/

We are pleased to feature CPA member photographer Ken Hoffman. My interest in photography began back in the seventies when I took a close-up photography class from David Cavagnaro through the Oakland Museum. In that class we crawled on our bellies in a Yosemite meadow, photographing bugs and stuff. As a result of that class, several of my images were exhibited at the Oakland Museum. Although I was immediately interested in more photo classes, my work schedule precluded it until my retirement from the commercial real estate world some forty years later. I then enrolled in a black and white film class taught by Sean McFarland at Diablo Valley College and I was hooked. https://photography.org/membphotog/ken-hoffman/

We are pleased to feature CPA member photographer Monte Borders. Upon an almost retirement as a professional photographer of 42 years, I linked back up to my early studies of my photographic heroes and I bought a 45 and 810 camera about a year ago. I remember learning the zone system, but had not used it much once I went into the portrait, wedding, and commercial business. I spent the last year photographing vegetables and fruit (Weston), landscapes (Adams), and portraits ...(Karsh). It was when I revisited Jerry Uelsmann’s work, that I started the process of putting the imagery together. I bought a contact printing frame and started cutting out templates. Unfortunately, I couldn’t get it to work, so went back to my 20 years of Photoshop and things started happening. The images were made mostly with an 810 camera and some with a 45. I develop the black and white film, scan the images, and put them into photoshop. The joy of assembly and creating a narrative has been wonderful. https://photography.org/membphotog/monte-borders/

We are pleased to feature CPA member photographer Edgar Praus. Over the last four decades, I have photographed the lesser-known corners of the American highways and cities. Though I began with landscape and architectural work and tagged myself as Photography with the Presence of People Without People, my most recent work has been exploring the states of Mississippi and West Virginia and their inhabitants. In the mid 2000’s I also spent three summers photographing street people in Buffalo, New York.11 https://photography.org/membphotog/edgar-praus/
