An urgent request regarding Marin City from Arts+ -------------------------------------------------- Dear Friends of Arts+,... Chilling and prescient words in the SF Chronicle this week about Marin City: Now, as the coronavirus exacerbates the nation’s income disparities, communities like Marin City will disproportionately bear the body slam.* While the mission of Arts+ is to support the students at Bayside Martin Luther King, Jr. Academy, we are deeply concerned about all aspects of these children’s lives. Please join us in supporting all those in the Marin City community who are in serious need: ***FIRST, we recommend reading this article which describes current realities of Marin City families as well as historic reasons for their disproportionate, unfair hardships. *Link to article: https://www. sfchronicle.com//Coronavirus-especially-vicious-for-the-Ba ***SECOND, we ask that you join us in donating to Arts+ and/or to Phoenix Project/Performing Stars, a trusted organization in Marin City that is doing tremendous work during COVID 19 to directly help Marin City community residents wherever the need is the greatest. ***THIRD, consider stimulating" the economy in Marin City! A friend of Arts+ just donated her $200 stimulus check to stimulate" the economy in Marin City. We thought this was a brilliant and compassionate use of these funds put to work where stimulus is needed most. Stand by for news of Bayside MLK, Arts+'s ongoing support of arts education during remote learning, and children's art creations from home coming within the week! Meanwhile here are links to donate and help now: -------------------------------------------------- Phoenix Project of Marin Mission: The Phoenix Project of Marin helps people in Marin work through their hardships and build on their strengths. PPM promotes stability. PPM is the first response to community crisis while providing emergency support safety net services, and referrals to the appropriate agencies. PPM guides at-risk Marin City residents to develop personal, social, and economic skills, in order to navigate the world around them.
